Here's the one I was talking about.  It's the cakewalk logo that scared me

Yeah, I have that one, too. Works fine in my 32 bit setup.

If you use the Sonitus compressor you don't even have to go so far as adjusting anything. Just clicking on the limit button will work regardless of compressor settings.

Yes, I would think that is what you would do if all you wanted was the limiter. At least, the documentation reads that way.

Yes, but what I get from the info is that the Limiter feature of the Sonitus compressor limits audio at 0 db to protect from clipping. If you want to use a lower limit, then you need to adjust the ratio/knee/threshold settings.

"When you adjust the gain so that the output level exceeds 0dB, the limiter will automatically attenuate the peaks to a safe non-clipping level. This means that you can safely boost the output gain by up to 30dB without any fear of clipping distortion. You can even use fx:compressor only as a limiter, if no compression is applied.
When the limiter is disabled, the signal will be clipped rather than limited."

That is correct. The limiter function is as basic as it can get. It just limits the output to -0.1 dB, no frills. I doubt I'll be recommending it as a mastering limiter but as a protection device it works fine.

Not much more to add to what's already been said

Boost 11 will work if you don't push it too hard, the Sonitus also works as a Limiter.

I use TRacks Brickwall Limiter, which does add a bit of latency but it's totally transparent

Outdated?

Does it turn into a pumpkin when opened?

Have you seen the thing ?  I swear it looks like a leftover from DOS days.  You're saying that it's a limiter on par with the other components of X2 ?  I won't cause me more problems than it's worth ?

You are correct!!   It looks like it was created in the '80s. And we all know anything created before last month has got to be past its sell-date.

"Its got COLOR on it.     It is not just all gray and stuff.   I can't touch it."

I can only infer you are way young.

The painting was a sought after lost piece that sold at auction for $60k.

It 'looked' outdated.

Message to Scott :  may I suggest you put a "limiter" entry into the index of your next power book
Hey Paul,

Good idea... . Not sure why it's not in there under Effects. I don't do the index myself, but I'll pass along the info to the indexer.

Thanks for reading the book!
Scott
