Hi all. I hope somebody can advise me. I have just started using Sonar X1 LE. I'm using a Vaio Laptop with a V-Studio 20. I watched the video on creating an audio track and it advised that I should use mono for recording my guitar. When selecting this I was given the following options:- 1. VS 20 Left,  2. VS 20 right, 3. VS 20 Stereo. What difference does it make choosing left or right and is one preferable to the other. I am completely new to recording having very little experience with Guitar Tracks software which came with my V-Studio 20 so any help would be much appreciated.

AFAIK there's no difference whether you use left or right. Of course, you must plug the instrument in the respective input. Did you notice a difference when you tried - if that's why you're asking?

Thank you for your help. I was just trying to ensure that I was setting up my 1st Sonar audio track correctly for guitar. I had looked at the on-line video which advised that you should set a guitar input to mono as opposed to stereo. this is my first real venture into recording software because until now i have just used my V-Studio 20 as an interphase into my computer whilst learning the guitar. Regards Denis :-)

It would only make a difference if you were using your computer's sound card and it's line-input. That's normally a stereo 3.5 mm TRS jack and if you plugged a (mono) guitar cord with a 1/4"-to-3.5 mm adapter into it, only the left side would get an input.
If you tried recording a stereo input, there would oly be sound on the left side of the track; the right channel would be blank.
If you had a stomp box with cool stereo effects, you might want to record on a stereo track.
