  • MIDI clips: Can groups of linked clips be named?

When I drag-copy a midi clip (made with Step Sequencer in my case), the two clips get a number

[2]:

In the top corner of the clip.

If I drag-copy again, I get [3]: in each clip.

But if I make 3 copies of ANOTHER clip, I ALSO get [3]: in each clip!

So now I cannot tell which clips will change if I edit one clip.

Is there a way of giving a group of clips a name so I can tell them apart?

I just tried selecting a couple of clips from different tracks. Went to the clip properties in the Inspector, typed in a new name and worked for both clips

Thanks for the hint - just tried it. I'll have to remember to set a name before I copy, but it's better than nothing.

One would think there'd be a way to find out which clips are linked.

H'm - sometimes the name appears over the clip, sometimes it's only in the clip properties. Another flakeyness feature.

Oh, this is crazy.

Sometimes, if I change the name, all linked clips (unmarked) get the same name. This is what I would expect.

But sometimes only the name of the marked clip changes.

And sometimes (mostly, really), I have to try type the name several times in the properties for any name to change at all.

Sounds frustrating! What 0S and X version are you running?

X2a, Win7 x64, i7 ASUS 8951G laptop.

But I recall having a similar issue in Sonar 7.

I would delete a clip, and randomly another clip would also disappear.
No linking or unlinking seemed to corrolate with the deleting behavior.

Every time I deleted a clip, I had to zoom out to check the entire song to ensure only one clip disappeared.

I don't recall that happening for me in Sonar 7 though I had other issues until about the 3rd patch.
I've not done much heavy editing yet in X2A but so far I've not had your experience.  I'm on X2A 32bit Win 8
