Hi all, Work with the Step Sequencer in X1 producer and have two questions. 1. Subdivisions - can I change them to 16th notes for patterns? 2. Can insert or create fils between phrases/sections? thanks, ryan

i think what confuses some people when going using a step sequencer in lieu of prv or staff view is that the terminology in interface changes but the functionality remains the same. It's all still a matter of math. You can make the pattern any time signature you want for the most part. You simply change the number of beats per measure and pattern length to accommodate your needs . You could conceivably make a pattern long enough create a fill that is integrated with the pattern itself, but i find it is often more flexible for me to create the fill as a pattern unto itself . If you wanted to do it the former way, simply extend your pattern length and add the fill notes.

If starting from scratch, you can change the subdivision by increasing the steps.

But this will not work for existing patterns. (Make a copy of the pattern first) You need to bounce the pattern to clip, and then re-convert it back to Step Sequencer by selecting a different resolution (32nd notes). But by doing so, you lose the column names and empty rows will be deleted.

Another option you can try (especially if the pattern you want to convert is very complex) is to insert another midi track and route the midi out similar to the existing track and have 2 parallel tracks to do the job. Then you can have a new track/step sequencer to handle the higher subdivision notes.
