  • Can I use Pyro's mp3 Encoder 'licence' in SONAR?

I just bought Pyro 1.5 (using my £15 Christmas Voucher from Cakewalk ) and have subsequently activated the mp3 encoder that comes with it.

I'm just wondering if the licence for the encoder allows me to activate the one in X2, or whether they are treated as separate entities?

Not a biggie, as on the odd occasion I've needed an mp3 of a project I've never had a problem with exporting a wave and converting it outside of SONAR, but if I should now be able to use the encoder/licence from Pyro, it would be nice to do so.

If this is possible, does anyone know how to set it up?

(I know there are other ways of using a third party Lame encoder within SONAR, but I'd just be interested to know if there's a 'one-time' encoder activation required for use in all Cakewalk products).

Many thanks in advance of any help and advice.

Well it seems to be working for me with Pyro.  So I guess so.

I don't understand this crazy moon language you speak.

What does the paid encoding do? I thought you just exported to mp3 (adding whatever tags in the process) and that was that.

I find it kind of... um... not so cool that we have to pay to get a proper, industry releasable version of our songs.

Oh well... at least I've got the capability now but after spending $600 on the Suite then X2 upgrade I figured that would be included.

It never has been except in Pro Audio. All these years after that those with Pro Audio had the MP3 encoder free. Now once you buy it you wont have to buy it again. I have never bought the MP3 encoder but I always had to authorize it using my Pro Audio disks. With Pyro installed it is working in X2.

oh... I actually didn't buy the encoder (seriously IDK what it's supposed to do but I'll check the manual). I bought Pyro AC. I'm guessing that's got me covered.

I think they are separate Strummy. I've had the Sonar encoder since 7 and all other Sonar versions installed find and use that one, but I had to activate the Pyro one to work in Pyro

I still have the old CW mp3 encoder that I got when I had GT 2.0. It's a little different too but still works great as a stand alone

And visa versa.  I had Pyro installed at work but after loading Sonar, I cannot figure out how to use the Pyro one - seems a bit odd. I purchased the activation years ago and use it at home but its frustrating to have to do both.

SONAR includes a 30 day trial of the MP3 encoder. Cakewalk does not own the license to the MP3 format and because not all users require the MP3 format, Cakewalk does not force you to pay for the license. If you need to export your projects as MP3 files, you can purchase the encoder directly from www.store.cakewalk.com.
huh... learn something new every day.

I think you might be right about that G.

When I try to export as an mp3 from inside X2 I get this message:

Incidentally, I can't find anywhere on the site that allows me to upgrade the encoder, only purchase it. There is nothing in my Product Registration either, just the serial and reg codes for Pyro.

Seems like a bit of a swizz to me, although I have absolutely no intention of buying it again, just for the (very small) convenience.

I fully understand why Cake has to charge for the encoder once - but surely I should be able to use it in all my Cakewalk software?

I wonder if it's because Pyro is currently on offer for $19.99 instead of $39.99? I mean to say, they charge $19.99 just for the encoder on its own elsewhere in the store

If nobody else has managed to do this, I think I'll have to send Customer Support an email and see what the deal is on this.

I got the mp3 encoder when I bought my version of pro audio many years ago and I can still use it today. The only problem I have is the encoder does not work in 64 bit. I don't know if there is an updated new encoder that works in 64 bit.

I would hate to spend the money to update the encoder only to find out I got the same one. It may be a good thing just to get the latest version of Pyro pro audio. I remember all the problems I had with Pyro 2004 and makes me hesitant. This is one of the many reasons I don't use 64 bit.

I use mp3 encoding as much as I use wave formats. It would be great to hear about any problems people are having with Pyro Pro Audio. Maybe I will go down into the Pyro forum and hang out a while.
