I'm looking for a little feedback on my new DAW setup here.

I feel like I'm perhaps experiencing a little more latency when tracking than in my previous setup and wonder if I have things configured properly.

I'm running X2a 64-bit on a new DAW running Win 7.

I'm using the ASIO driver with my Delta 44 card.

Buffer is set at 64 samples.  Total roundtrip latency is reported at 4.5ms.

For monitoring during tracking, I have the Master output from X2 running into 2 channels on my Mackie 1604.

Then I also am monitoring my record input (microphone) on a separate channel on the Mackie.  This allows me to adjust the monitor levels of the mix and the input source independently.  To do this, on the Output tab of the Delta 44 Control Panel I am selecting 1/2 output source on on the 3/4 out channel.

The Delta 44 Control Panel GUI is different in this new setup than in my previous setup.  I don't have it in front of me, but remembering clicking on some Monitoring buttons for this purpose. 

This current setup seems to work, but I feel like there is some latency.

Is there a better method?

BTW, I am not using input monitoring on any of the channels in X2.

Thoughts?  Suggestions?

4.5 millisecond latency is not discernible to the human ear.  It is like playing approximately 4-5 feet from your cabinet.  

If there is latency you are hearing, it would seem like caused by effects use in Sonar.

Try bypassing the effects, and seeing if you still hear latency.  Then go through and turn each effect off/on until you figure out which one(s) cause the issue.

Please post back if that does not address things for you,

I'm surprised you can get it below 5.8msec. You won't get any better than 4.5msec. 

Based on your comments, it sounds like I am in pretty good shape based on the numbers.

I will experiment some more and see what I find.

I was hoping to hear from someone using the same audio interface in a similar setup.

Is Beagle still around these parts?  I think he is, or may have been a Delta 44 user.

Hi Dave . . . what makes you "feel" like there's more latency on your new system ?
You hear a noticable sound delay while recording ?
 
I've got the M-Audio Delta 66 card (driver v6.0.8), and while I can start a project with the roundtrip latency down to 3.4 msec (buffers @ 128), I can't sustain that setting through the whole process of recording / tracking - - -> through to mixing my projects. At some point, after I've added a bunch of CPU sucking VST plugins, latency settings have to be adjusted. 
 
I don't think you can find one setting to work in all scenarios. For example: by the time I'm at a mastering stage, and add my Ozone 5 VST plugin, I have to set the buffers settings up to 1024 (round trip latency now up to 22.1 msec)
 
I also have an external hardware mixer, and have similar settings to what you're describing for monitoring and recording with the M-Audio control panel.
When recording, I try to monitor on 1/2 and record on 3/4.
 
I find the "ASIO Panel" button (in Sonar preferences) does not work with this driver, but If I change the hardware / M-Audio control panel settings, then hit apply (in Sonar preferences) , my latency settings from the soundcard panel get updated into Sonar preferences. Works quite well that way.
 
Hopefully this is of some help, from one M-Audio Delta user to another.
 

Hi Dave,

If a latent plugin is inserted anywhere in the project (doesn't have to be on the track you're recording), you'll experience additional latency.
You can use the Global PDC disable function (in the control bar), or you can remove/avoid any latent plugins while tracking.
