I want what you want - it's a mystery really that notation software implement rewire - but forgot about midi - which really is what you need.

Rewire notation software in - checkmark the midi tracks you want to process - and done, just about.

Agreed but for some reason none of the Notation apps send MIDI.  Sibelius sent out at survey and that was one of the questions so maybe there's hope.

It's been awhile now, back around SONAR 7 or early 8, but Cakewalk acknowledged that the notation needed improvement. Cakewalk understood what was really needed, even if some of the forum posters did not. Cakewalk said that it did not have the resources to make it a priority at that time. After that, a few of us held out hope that something would happen. My hope has faded almost away, but it isn't completely gone.
Is it just my imagination, or does it appear that there is a gag order preventing Cakewalk staff from posting any comment regarding the Staff View on the forums?

Personally, when X1 became available, I thought it was a great new interface / workflow.  But in what defies logic, the Staff View appears to be getting less functional and more buggy than ever.

Unfortunately they will never update Staff View.  It hasn't changed appreciably in 15 years.  Cakewalk staff apparently aren't allowed to discuss that so they will never comment on it.  Some people in the company may want it but it will never be done.  Interestingly, Cubase has serious plans to improve their already excellent DAW notation.

If I was cakewalk staff i would not comment in these kinds of threads either. They would just get a beatdown by the staff view mafia without engaging in any meaningful dialogue. I find that cakewalk staff tends to chime in on thread where they can actually help. To come into one of these threads without having a confirmed list of planned improvements to staff view is asking to be a punching bag for the disgruntled. It would be like he guy waiting to relieve the guy at the customer service desk who is right in the middle of helping a belligerent customer. No sane person volunteers for that.

There was one brief response last year and it was not at all encouraging:

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk]

"I use SONAR's Piano Roll View. I'm not really a Staff View person..." link

Unfortunately Cakewalk staff seem to believe in the same myth as most users, i.e. you can use either PRV or SV, not both.

If there were a hotfix to X2a (or X2b) which would address icons which have disappeared in X1, and address strange X2a behavior of snap to grid in the SV, it would go a long way to satisfy SV users.  (A dedicated SV snap to grid setting would certainly be nice too.)

I don't hold out much hope for addressing issues which revolve around the handling of triplets.

It's a pity if anyone that is part of decision-making at Cakewalk is that narrow minded - and think of SV as pure input device only.

There are so many uses.

Yep.  It's 2013 - nobody uses triplets anymore.

It's a real pity that Notion 4 does not support midi over rewire either.

Reply from their support:
"Our ReWire still only transmits audio data via ReWire. If you would like to send MIDI data to another program, you can do so using MIDI out. "

I just don't get it - why would we want audio data into notation software.

So that's it - Sonar needs to upgrade their staff view.

I use the notation view to compose and sequence.  I am OK with some limitations, but there are a lot of annoying bugs that have been there a long time.  And notes on staves is the official language of music...
