So a friend of mine gave me an old UAD-1 card with all the software etc. I've read all over the websphere that UAD-1 isn't too friendly with Windows 7 x64, and as a result doesn't play too well (or at all, some say) with Sonar X2. However, many folks have noted that it seems to work fine if one installs UAD version 5.4 drivers (not higher), and can be ran successfully under bitbridge.

Is anyone out there doing this? Is it even worth trying?

I used a UAD-1 card with W7, X1d 32-bit for a year or so. Maybe a bit less.

Anyhow, it was never the cause of a crash. Steven Slate on the other hand...

But you have to NOT upgrade past 6.1 or something like that. They have the info on the UAD website, but at a certain point they simply stopped including UAD-1 in the new UAD-2 software updates.

Also, I'm not sure exactly but I do know that others had issue with UAD in general with X2 and a certain version number of UAD-2 software. You probably do not need to worry since your software will need to be older to use the card.

Hi,
Yes, I have a UAD-1 card with Sonar X2a 64 running on Windows 7 x64 with no issues.

You'll have to use an older driver though, as UAD dropped support for the UAD-1 cards a while back, so their latest driver won't work with it.

It's definitely worth using since it was given to you - the UAD plugins are top notch imo.  But that said, the latest Cakewalk prochannel plugs are quite good as well.  I'm planning to not invest in a new UAD card after I can't use this one anymore, as I think the native plugins and CPU power have come so far that dedicated hardware isn't required any longer and is just a burden.

My UAD 1 card is lying, unenthusiastically on the bale of insulation in the corner.

That is great news. I will go ahead and install the UAD then and give it a shot. Worst case scenario, I can always do a system restore. Thanks for the feedback, guys. Much appreciated!
