Hi All, Happy New Year! Lets make it a good one! I just bought the Sonar X2 cds, they are coming in the mail. Can I install X2 on a Windows 8 computer? I don't know if the cds will include the X2a stuff. Anyone know? Or is the X2a a download? The Sonar X2 cds I bought is the upgrade from Sonar X1. Will the X2 cds install the whole application, or do I have to install X1 first. I read on the web page for the application at http://www.cakewalk.com/p.ducts/SONAR/X2-Producer/ , "Windows 8 support will be available through a free patch later this year." What that all about? I do not have a tough screen so I'm not worried about that stuff. Thanks for the help! Jim

The X2 DVDs are a full version that does not rely on X1 and will run on Win8. You will need to download the X2a patch, it is not included on the X2 DVDs. The X2a patch fixes several bugs and adds some Win8 specific stuff. You can read about the patch here http://www.cakewalk.com/S...reader.aspx/2007013301

Windows 8 and X2 were made for one another. X2a strengthens this bond.

Just make sure your sound card will work in Win 8.  I tried moving from Win 7x64 to Win 8x64 this weekend.  After 2 days of trying to get my RME Fireface UFX working like it did under Win7 I went back.

Sonar X2a was fine.

RME has not yet provided Windows 8 drivers. With those it would probably work best.
Did you try to contact RME or post in their forum?

Yes -there are several threads about Win8 on the RME forums.  I knew  going in that there could be issues with Firewire, but I thought USB would be ok.  It worked, but not at the latency and track counts I use that are very stable in Win7.

Same results regardless of DAW (Sonar X2, StudioOne 2.5, and Cubase 7).
Back to Win7x64 for now.

I'm using a RME Multiface II (PCIe) on Win 8 64 bit with Sonar X2 succesfully. I've used the Win 7 64 bit drivers.

jfyi.. in case you're not using the latest driver - RME's website shows their latest driver (v.1028 from Dec 2012) is compatible with Windows 8.   The release notes for it also say it's for Win 8.
