Heres what I have going on, I am using 2 different midi patterns for drums, so there is severl different peices of information in the MIDI data. the velocities between the 2 files vary and I need to make them siliar, how in the heck do I select jsut the kick drums in one clip and change all of their velocities at the same time, then repeat for snares etc.....  there has got to be an easy way, this new version is driving me crazy!!!!  at this point I miss version 5, may not be as fance, but i could do what I needed to do!  I have watched tutorials, and wasted 2 hours trying this.  I am very frustrated at this point.

Ok based on your problem.

If you want to select all the kick hits use the keyboard on the left to select the note and all the kicks will be selected.

Next click on the mouse wheel and the HUD will pop up. Right click on the wrench and select edit.

Then move the mouse over the middle of one of the selected notes until you see the mouse curser change to what looks like ili and click on the note, drag up to increase the vel and down to reduce.

have fun

In PRV set the smart tool to the arrow, then right click and lasso select all of the kick drum notes that you want to adjust (right click on mouse and move the mouse to the right until the end all kick notes are then highlighted). Once you have done that you can then increase or decrease velocity for all highlighted items. Repeat for snare etc.

To view multiple tracks in PVR - control and left click on each clip - or track that you want to view (with tracks with more than one clip you need to highlight each clip within the track) and then open PVR, you should now be able to see multiple clips or tracks. This is very helpful when trying to edit different midi drum tracks.

Qualification - I am new to this forum and others may well have better ideas or advice than I, however this works for me.

Are you using X2?

If so, in the PRV... as Tom said, click the keyboard key that represents the kick to select all kick notes.

Then, using the Smart tool, you can do as Tom said and hover your mouse over the top of one of the selected notes until you see the Draw tool with lines show at the eraser end of it. Then click and drag up/down to raise/lower velocities of all selected notes.

OR you can use the Controller pane and hold down Alt while clicking and dragging the mouse over the selected note velocities to draw in new values. The first method is easier though.

You can also use the Event Inspector to do all kinds of parameter changes on MIDI notes. Check out this free video...

if i want to select only some of the kick notes and adjust all together, how do I do that?  once I zoom out, my curser seems to turn into a magnifying glass, how do I turn that off?  I don't want to change all of the kick velocities on t he entire song at the same time, i used a few midi patterns, and need to adjust each one (pattern) to get all of the velocities consistent, so I need to change, for example 12 measures at a time, not the entire song.  In my previous version of sonar, i was able to zoom out, select all of the midi notes i wanted to change by "drawing a frame/box" around them and them and then change the velocity.  What I seem to get now are all of the bells and whistles which I am having trouble figuring out how to work with them.  I can no longer select by "drawing a box" when I am zoomed out. very hard time getting the velocity change to appear while hovering over the midi note, once I get it and click to change it, it creates a new midi note.  it seems to be very tempermental! I did find a feature that would show only the velicoties for the midi notes selected, however doesn't really suite any purpose, would think if you selected midi notes and only saw those velocities for the selected notes, you should be able to edit those and only those notes, NOPE! not how it works, once you draw or click into the controller pane, it will edit all midi note velocities.  I gotta say, I really feel like this version was actually a step backwards when it came to midi editing. I could be wrong, but I could use an in depth tutorial video on PRV. I did watch a demo mentioned previously, but that does not toouch on any of my specific needs.

Which version of SONAR are you using? Things are different between X1 and X2.

Regarding the PRV... you mentioned a tutorial... the PRV will be covered in detail in my upcoming SONAR X2 Power! book... http://www.garrigus.com/powerbooks.asp

Okay, then to lasso ("draw a box around") notes, you need to right-click and drag over the notes.

Also, the magnification you mentioned is called Microscope mode in SONAR. You can set that by choosing Edit > Preferences > Customization - Editing and then setting the Microscope option. Remove the check mark to turn it off.
