  • X2 Prod: What's the diff. between FX in the FX bin and in the FX Chain?

Still messing with the tuts (and digging around as I go along) and am hoping for some insight on using the FX bin which seems to appear on Console strips and in the Track Pane but not in the Pro Channel Inspector. In the PC Inspector I can add FX after adding the FX Chain module (new to X2 I believe) but the chain does not appear in the Console or Track Pane (I looked around to see if there was a hidden strip module but could not find an option).

No problems. Just looking to feed my ravenous brain as usual.

Cheers.

Hi Beep,

You can, however, add an effects chain into the ProChannel and then add you're fave non PC effects into that.

Edit: Oops... just read your post again and you mentioned that. Sorry :)

I.M.O.P.........Not much difference other than the additional routing capabilities.

HNY, synkro!

Yup, I can see that. I'm just wondering what difference it makes. Is the FX bin now outdated because of the new FX Chain insert in X2? I do like being able to pop open my effects GUIs from the Console but I don't see a way to view the FX chain without opening the Inspector.

Sorry... maybe I'm being weird.

Cheers.

Yeah, as Bluzdog says.

Also, you can add an "Effects Chain" into the Console or Track FX Bin, I've just checked :)

Oh, and happy new year to you too (had to work out what HNY meant LOL)

@Rocky... Thanks. I guess the FX bin probably is outdated then.

You can add FX Chains to either the PC or FX bins. FX Chains allow you to combine existing plug-ins into a single unit with customized controls, etc. Essentially, it allows you to use your existing plug-ins to "build" your own effects. And an FX Chain only takes up one slot in the FX bin, where as the individual plug-ins it represents would take up multiple slots.

The FX bin is visible in the Inspector in the clip and track tabs, you have to scroll to see it. The ProChannel has nothing to do with the FX bin. By default, the FX bin is after the Prochannel in the signal chain. Effects in the FX bin can be docked. As of now, effects in FX chains cannot be docked. You can use FX chains in either the FX bin or the Prochannel. To access FX chains in the Prochannel you either get at them in the Inspector or expand the Prochannel in the Console view.

Ah, yes. I see it now. The little + sign on the bin gives a dropdown with FX Chain option available. Very cool.

Thank you.

and yeah... intertube acronyms be whack. ;-)

Good to see ya.

Took me a minute to parse that out but that's pretty cool. Thanks, Scott!
