  • X2 Prod: What's the diff. between FX in the FX bin and in the FX Chain? (p.2)

The FX bin is visible in the Inspector in the clip and track tabs, you have to scroll to see it.

Cheers. Just tried that out but those two tabs will not let me scroll (same problem I was having the other day).

wait... okay, I see now I can use the Console View ProChannel expand button to get at it.

eeenteresting. ;-)

I must admit that for my own music I am managing to keep things simple, for now. Where I can, I use Pro Channel. And I often use one or two effects busses, again using PC on the buss.

Tis a good idea though, to get to grips with all our beloved DAW can do. I'm just not able to learn the same as I used to when I considered myself to be a MIDI "expert" lol.

Beep, do you click on the console strip area of the Inspector before trying to scroll?

Since the arrival of PC FX Chains, I no longer use the FX bin.  I know others do the same.

One difference I've found (and it 's probably a bug) is that fx chain effects won't "save" in the multidock

@synkro... Yup but I'm giving myself a crash course (again) by slowly dissecting the manual. Now that I don't have to tear down my DAW every night and I don't have a ton of household distractions I can finally dig into the meat of it. It also helps that I'm a little more familiar with the general stuff in Sonar after muddling my way through things the past six months or so. I have learned a lot in just the past week since I've started focusing on the manual every day for at least a few hours.

@scook... yup. Not working. Maybe it got fixed in the "a" patch but I'm still holding off on that. I've started a bookmarks folder for threads containing fixes and workarounds for a patch problems. If I can get my head around stuff I'll take the dive but a lot of it is hyper technical. :-/

@jb... Howdy. Yeah, I'm not sure which way I'm going to take my workflow yet but it's good to have all the options in my noodle. The only thing I can think of that would keep me using the strip FX Bins is that because I have not figured out how to properly save and recall strip presets yet I don't want to lose my current mixing workflow. Essentially when I clone a bunch of guitar tracks or takes I like being able to easily copy/drag altered FX instances to the next strip.... sorry that might be confusing... but it's something I do. If I can reliably save and recall an entire strips parameters including FX setting then I'll stop doing it that way. Cheers and HNY. ;-)

@twisted... I don't follow. The FX chain box can be yanked from the PC and dragged to the Multi Dock? I saw that thread earlier eluding to something like this but had no idea what was going on. Cheers.

Why wouldn't you goto X2a beepster?

Hi, dude. I've got it dl'd but because of some of the wackiness being reported I'm holding off. A lot of the complaints and fixes are WAY above my head so I'm holding off until I can be sure if something does go wrong I know I can fix it. I currently have the QuickFix installed and really X2 306 was working reasonably well anyway so it's fine while I work through the manual. I'm going on the premise that much of the Win 8 stuff may have introduced new bugs that haven't been thoroughly discovered and reported yet so a "b" patch might be worth the wait. Also seeing as how the patch came out just before the holidays our user knowledge base here on the forum hasn't reached peak yet as people are probably hanging out with their families instead of sitting behind their DAWs.

Yeah... I think too much sometimes. Happy New Year. ;-)

Yah, happy new Year Beepster!

You  may be wise being a little cautious. I just tend to be a bull in a china shop and jump in and work out the kinks when I'm there.

I'd say X2a is very good here- have run a couple of 8-10 hour recording sessions and no problems at all.

@backwoods... Right on. I'm starting to see a lot more happy reports so that's encouraging.

I just got a weird feeling I might be one of the ones who ends up with a problem so I'm trusting my gut.

Now here's a weird question... is the AIM Assist line supposed to disappear when the cursor is over the timeline? I'd like it to be there when I'm setting loop points and other stuff.

Cheers.
