  • X2 Prod: What's the diff. between FX in the FX bin and in the FX Chain? (p.3)

Yes, you can reliably save, clone and recall FX setting using FX chains. The only limitation that I know of the the inability to dock effects from inside an FX chain. Not sure if that is by design or a byproduct of having the effects encapsulated in the FX Chain wrapper.

The B patch (if there is one) is going to have people reporting issues too. I have never seen a SONAR patch that did not have people reporting issues. There are a few reported successes but problems are reported with way more frequency than successes. In any event, you have to do what feels right to you.

Nothing to add to this thread except to point out that there are those of us who do not use the ProChannel at all and would like to keep using the FX Bin.

I do not believe the existence of the FX bin is in peril. If it were, there is little we could do about it though.

In X2a, the Aim assist disappears when the cursor is in the timeline.

This is OT but I've always just winged my EQing in the past and need to learn how to properly get things out of each others way in the mix. This is my own take on what the EQing blurb of the Mixing tut says about this (when it is describing how to get the Tension track out of the way of the Chirpy Synth track:

Solo two tracks that may be interfering with each other, add a graphic EQ like Sonitus EQ to the FX Bin, click and drag a Node upward and sweep left and right though the frequency range to find the frequencies that interfere with the other soloed track the most then drag the node down to reduce that frequency thus getting it out of the way of the other track's frequencies.

Is that somewhat close? It's going in my notes. Cheers.

I'd like the FX bin to stay too just because it's another way of doing things so that's always good. I do recall Seth and Brandon saying in the X2 Webinar that the FX Bin wasn't going anywhere and the FX Chain Module was just an extra.

That's a drag about the AIM Assist thingy. Seems odd they would do it that way. :-/

Highjacking your own thread in msg #25. That ought to work.

I would imagine the FX bin will be around for a long time if only for backward compatibility. Even if it were to go way, FX chains are essentially relocatable FX bins with the added benefit of being able to recall effects settings.

Okay... I think I've crammed my noodle enough for one day. Only halfway through the mixing tut but I'll take another stab at it tomorrow.

Thanks, guys.

A good point, and I also just end up jumping in there anyway. But I'm not a pro so I can afford to do that.
