My friend and collaborator Tim Wilkinson writes some fine lyrics, and these are some of his finest IMO. This is an edited version of the final track on my recently completed 'Weirdstone' project.

Tim wrote the song, sang and played acoustic guitar, I did the rest.

The king of glass, he sleeps beneath the hill
The place is marked by an apple tree still
And I have had so many names, across the ages of the earth
But you can call me Cadellin, for what it's worth
I'm standing at an angle to the universe
On the Edge, life's on the Edge

Heartstone hides an edge so fine
Split the line with shards and nine
Tap the time with a black flint knife
Play Old Harry till it comes to life
On the Edge

I left them lying close apart
The king of glass and his men each with a frozen heart
Stone-cold effigies on the tomb of the sculptor's art
Beating the bounds of the ground they keep
Taking a deep breath, before they leap
From the Edge, Life's on the Edge

Beyond the bull-sound roar of joy
Moon-lust and the fall of Troy
The king of glass in his cave of gold
Gains his gravity, loses his hold
On the Edge

Beautiful James! Love the guitars and the lyrics really are as good as you say. Usual great mix. Love the added piano towards the end; that adds a lot of weight, if you know what I mean.

Dan

Outstanding indeed. Reminiscent of early Genesis, but more cleanly recorded. Love the subtle percussion, and well, the subtleness of everything in there. Classy.

Very pretty. Bit already wrote what I would have.
Love that LP sailing around.

Wow! I love this song! It's original yet has flavors of Jim Croce and Dave Mason.

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Dan! Glad you liked that piano, I was looking for something akin to Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes' there, to add a little more gravitas at the end.

Nice job James and Tim very reminiscent of early Genesis, I am thinking Nursery Crime - Harlequin

Heh, no "Screw you" any more.  Sounds like you changed things without losing any of the song's feel - good job!   I know I made the comment (and, I guess, others did too?) that after Headless Cross it just seemed a bit jarring, but not bad!  This IS better though IMO.
