I recorded a song and finished all the tracks about 21 in all. I used session drummer. I selected the option to make a Midi Source Track and to create Al synth audio output stereo When I first opened session drummer. This created a separate track for every drum. I started to audition midi files and choose some from the Steven Slate collection.

I began to mix all the tracks I recorded. I noticed the meters on the midi source track were in the red. I noticed a gain knob as well. I turned the gain down a little and the meter was still clipping.  I started to turn the midi source track gain knob down about two thirds of the way. The meter was still clipping. I turned the gain knob all the way down and there were no more drums coming through the monitor. I turned the gain knob back up and the midi source track was clipping again.

being Frustrated, I saved the track and ended the session. When I called the project up again I discovered that the midi source track added a lot of extra notes to the drums. I went in and removed some of the midi loops and tried to replace them with the ones I originally used and the notes are added again. 

When I play the midi loop in the browser it sounds like it should. When I put it in the midi source track it changes it and it now sounds really bad.

The only thing I touched was the Gain knob at the top of the midi source track. Before I remove session drummer from the project and redo the entire drum part I am wondering if anyone else had this problem. Is there a quick fix to this? Why does the midi source track always clip? What am I doing wrong?

It sounds like you accidentally added multiple loops on top of each other in the MIDI track. It is pretty easy to do and can really sound terrible. You can go in and manually clean up the PRV but it might be easier to rebuild the track from scratch.

I don't think you can overload a Midi track.

All my Midi source tracks will "clip" when they receive an input - it's nothing to worry about

Scook you may be right and that is what I thought at first too. When I deleted the loop in question there was nothing underneath it. I am thinking that maybe it is a bug. Once I cleared the area of loops I loaded another loop. The same thing happened and the problem was not fixed. If there are other loops there I can not see them.

I did not think the gain knob on the midi source track was connected to or messed with any midi data itself.

 I guess the only thing to do is delete session drummer out of the project and reload it or use something else.

Bristol my midi tracks have always done that too, I was just wondering if the gain knob would stop that. I know it's nothing to worry about but any clipped meter to me is a red flag and even though it may not be a problem it bothers me. This is something cakewalk should fix.

I deleted Session drum out of the project and reloaded it again. I loaded a new midi loop and tweaked the gain knob in the control panel at the top of the midi source strip. It is the knob that says gain. When you turn it down it lowers the volume. When you turn it up and go past the middle which states 0 it messes with the midi data. Keeping the knob in the middle at zero restores the original loop. turning it left lowers the volume turning it right changes the data in the loop. My guess is that this is a bug.

I hit undo until I got back to my original project with session drummer and returned the gain knob to the middle. It is strange that no matter what happens the midi source clip shows clipping. If it were not for that I would have never touched the knob to begin with.

The Gain knob reduces the overall velocity of the notes on a MIDI track from what I've read.

My MIDI tracks ALWAYS hit the red no matter what I do. It freaks me out but there is no noticeable clipping.

Turn that knob to the right and watch what happens, It's kind of weird. 

The project I have open doesn't have a MIDI track. What are you seeing?

I think they should have named that knob Velocity instead of Gain. Kind of confusing the way it is.

Turning it to the right messes with the midi data and adds notes in strange places. it really freaked out my session drummer in a current project. I thought i broke something....lol

Also beep when you open up a softsynth click on add a midi source track. This allows you to drop midi loops right in the midi source track

hmm... It will mess with the data because it is increasing the velocity of each note. Not sure why new notes would appear but I'm assuming those notes were already there but because the Gain/Velocity was turned down their velocity = 0 and the notes disappeared. When you turned it up they registered.
