I have several midi tracks and soft synths in this one project. But every time I open the project and play it for the first time after opening it, the first note of each midi is always louder than the rest. And then it remains normal after that until you close and re-open the project again. This is of course avoided if the track is frozen. Anyone know why its doing this?

Some sort of MIDI message being sent such as a reset? That can definitely happen with a sysex bank with MIDI hardware but I don't think that would affect a softsynth perhaps somewhere else in the project. Event list view?

 

It would seem that there would either be some sort of MIDI event present or some sort of action applied to the audio.

This is a weird one, that's for sure.  Soft synths do not care if the note that gets triggered for them to play is the first, last, or one of a zillion.  They just receive events and process them - no favorites like the 1st note.

some of the compressors take second to warm up, if you will. I usually have several seconds of rolling audio before the first sound. is it possible you're compressor isn't compressing the first note?

Did you get the MIDI file off the net?

There may be a sysex dump or something strange in the event list.

Maybe look in the event list for an unexpected command?


I don't know much about MIDI but I have had stuff like that happen with downloaded MIDI files I have experimented with. Once I cleared out the event list of extraneous commands everything would seem normal.

Is that first note at 00:00:00? If so, try inserting a silent measure at the front, or even pushing the first note back a few ticks. If there are multiple events at exactly the same time, there is no way to assure the sequence in which they will be executed. The first note may be processed before the first CC7 event.
