Recently got a new computer and upgraded to X2 from 6 producer.
 
My new computer has Windows 8 and I have an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio interface.  After I connected the interface to the computer and it recognized it, I had no issues at first.  However, now I am getting the blue screen at random and my computer restarts.
 
Because I don't believe there is as Windows 8 driver for the Fast Track, I think there might be a conflict with the onboard soundcard.
 
Anyone had success with Windows 8 and the Fast Track Ultra?  If not, what is an inexpensive and decent audio interface that plays well with Windows 8 and X2?

Disconnect and uninstall via the device manager and then follow this guide:

Use the w7 drivers:

Disabling the internal audio card is good to do before installing.

But, then you could enable if needed.

AND:  you may have to change the settings in the windows audio device dialog to match the settings used in SONAR: bit rate, bit depth,...

Some of your problems might have to do with USB3. I know that PreSonus released new drivers to get their interfaces working after USB3 became more standard. 

I have had good luck with Roland interfaces and Windows 8 on my test computer. I have used both a TRI-CAPTURE and an OCTA-CAPTURE and both have updated drivers and worked fine. 
I got rid of my Fast Track Ultra a long time ago, so I don't really know how well those would work. Those are getting a bit dated.

Also, I don't think that X2 is officially supported on Windows 8 quite yet.

I think the X2 patch coming for Win 8 is for the touch-screen functionality.  I use Win 8 with X2 all day and have no issues whatsoever with stability.

You DO have to make sure you have the correct drivers installed - and any USB device may not properly work yet with the USB 3.0 ports - as the other poster indicated, I too have a Presonus USB interface, and USB 3.0 made it completely freak out, but it works fine with the USB 2.0 ports.

Questions:

Do these blue screens etc. happen outside of attempting to use Sonar?  
Do they happen if you have your interface unplugged from the computer?  
Do normal tunes play through Windows Media Player?  
In Device Manager, are all of your drivers indicating working properly?
What happens if you plug your interface into a USB 2.0 port?
Have you checked the ASIO sample rates to make sure they match between Sonar and the interface?

Please respond to the above questions - maybe something there will point to an issue that can be resolved,

I have the same setup...it is more than likely caused by your computer going into sleep mode.  There is a Avid document about Maudio product's incompatibility with sleep mode.  When I took my system out of sleep mode, the BSOD never came back.  I'm sorry I can't remember where I saw the document, but it definately fixed it for me.

I changed my power settings to never turn off any USB devices for inactivity, and also set it to never go to sleep.

Hi there. I also get a BSOD if I try to load an older project that wasn't done in X2.Sonar will crash and I have to close it off the hard way. Then when I close the computer down it goes to BSod and performs a memory crash dump listing Fast Track Ultra <> not equal to whatever or something like that. I am convinced that it is the audio driver that is at fault. M-Audio really drag thier heels about writing new drivers for older products. Think I will look elsewhere for my next soundcard.

jm24.  Thanks for responding.  I tried and no can do.  I downloaded 6.0.10 and after the installation I turn the M-Audio on.  Windows reflects that there is no driver for this device.
 
Not sure what to do now...I don't want to buy a new sound card, but I think that is the only option.

Did you install the driver before plugging the device into the USB port? If not, uninstall the driver and start over without the Fast Track plugged in. 

If it has a Windows 7 driver, which it appears to have, that should work with Windows 8. 

What's your driver mode ? Asio? I have a FTU on Win 8 and it works without a hitch. Actually works better imho.
