Airplay is a wireless audio/video transmission protocol. It saves running cables from my PC to the home stereo. It's an Apple invention, and is designed for sending music from iTunes on your PC to an AppleTV or Airport Express connected to your stereo. You can also stream from an iPad or iPhone.

It would be really cool if any program on a PC could stream to Airplay. That's where Airfoil comes in. It's software for a Windows machine that grabs the audio stream and sends it to an Airplay device.

I can get this to work for Winamp and Firefox, but not Sonar X1.

My questions:
1. Has anyone got Airfoil to work with Sonar?
2. Are there some settings for Sonar that would enable this?
3. Is there something special about the way Sonar handles audio that would cause a problem?

Cheers, Peter.

I would guess that Airfoil pulls streams the audio directly from Windows. SONAR typically uses ASIO, so its not running directly out of Windows audio I/O. However, WDM (good) and MME (not so good) driver types stream directly out of Windows audio, so try using one of those driver types in SONAR with Airfoil.

Hi Seth

Thanks for the suggestions. I use WDM/KS by default, and I tried MME as well. No luck.

I'll keep experimenting - it would very handy to get this working.

Cheers, Peter.
