I'm trying to delete old Waves V8 plugs from the list in the plug-in manager. When I hit the "Exclude plug-in" button I get a message that the file does not exist, would you like to remove it from the registry? When I click yes the item remains in the list. Is there another way to delete items in the registry list? They don't go away when I scan for VST's even when I remove that folder from the scan folders list. Thanks.

THere are a number of ways to do this, but an easy one is to remove the plugins in a nomral fashion (uninstall if that's available) or just remove them from the VST plugin folder.

Then do a VST Scan and use the "Reset" command.  That will do a star-over, so to speak.

You might want to do a system backup JUST in case though.  You know how these things can go ;)

I tried the reset command and their stiil there. This is weird. Thanks for the help Billy :)

I use CCleaner to clean out the registry of any older files left behind on an uninstall. Sometimes, I may have to run it several times to get all the junk out. Then, I do a re-scan with the plugin manager and all is good to go. I have heard some people complain about CCleaner, but I never had any problems. This has always worked for me. I would suppose that any registry cleaning software would work.

Thanks Sid..... I ran Norton registry clean up. It found a bunch of problems (416). The entries for Waves V8 plugs are still there. I uninstalled Waves using Waves uninstaller. Still no love.

One can disable it in Plugin Manager.

The disable button hasn't worked in this case. When I hit the disable button I get the error message "file does not exist would I like to remove it from the registry"

Waves has been helpful and they think I have some V8 stuff still lurking around.

I've uninstalled everything to do with Waves V8 and V9. I've cleaned the recycle bin. I've ran registry clean up and rescanned for VST's several times. I've deleted any short cuts pointing to any Waves files yet these items continue to keep residence in my registered plug list in Sonar. What next?

next? report it to cakewalk... it's been known for a while that the pm doesn't properly tidy up after itself

Per Billy - removing the plugin from your scanned vst folder -> reset/scan should have worked. 

I have another approach I took once to get rid of a pesky plugin ghost. I renamed the standard VST folder to some else like VST2 (something Sonar would not scan). Created a new VST folder with nothing in it. Opened X1 and reset/scan the new empty folder. Of course at that point I had no plugins available in X1.

Once that was done I put everything back to its' original form. (deleted the new "empty" vst folder / renamed the original VST folder back to its' original name. Opened X1 - reset/scan and all was well. 

It was my version of grabbing the paddles at an ER and yelling "clear"

There is a couple of other ways I could have done this. My thought was to move the VST folder and its' contents to a safe place. And have Sonar scan a new plugin free VST folder to reset itself. I was chasing a ghost like you have been. And that clumsy approach worked.
