there's only a small number of the plugs bundled with sonar that won't work in other daws, someone posted a checklist/screenshot in another thread already

I really like my Pro Channel functionality in SPLAT ...

Definitely try Studio One again.  Again, love and respect to Cakewalk and Sonar, but I was, and still am, amazed at how much better I like Studio One, in almost every way.

I recently purchased a Presonus Studio 192 audio interface
It came with a lite version of Studio One 3
The integration with the hardware seems very cool.

My thought was to track live into Studio One and then transfer the tracks into my DAW of choice for the past 17 years, SONAR
Now it looks like I'll be upgrading to Studio One 3 Professional.

I was about to cancel my subscription to Groove 3
I guess I have some instructional videos to start watching now.

I realize that SONAR will continue to work , but it's like working in a relationship with a woman that has told you she's definitely going to leave.

Time to move on.

I've been on Studio One since the Spring and I've only opened Sonar to export projects.  I really like S1; just wish I had not done the lifetime updates deal with Cakewalk.

Well after all these years, Sonar 8.5 still runs, and it has not been developed since X1 was released.

I would expect that Platinum will continue to run for many more years, so no rush to learn another DAW, until changes in Windows someday make that a necessity.

Of course we will still need a forum where Craig can tell us how to work around any bugs we encounter!

Totally agree, been with S13 Pro since its release and never looked back.

I use Cubase. It is the most feature rich DAW on the market. Steinberg have introduced so many incredible features in the last few years, its not just a DAW but a composition tool (e.g. Chord tracks). it's miles ahead of the competition I think. Studio One is a beautiful, highly optimised stable DAW - which has some brilliant, and innovative features but lacks the depth of Cubase.

Agreed. I'm surprised there are so many comments about folks thinking of Studio One as the first option, and not so many (yet) regarding how strong Cubase is. I wasn't planning to change from Sonar, but now that change is upon us, Cubase really appears to be the stronger offering of what's available.

Gibson's gift to other companies.

Black Friday in 2 days: I wonder which DAW-maker will step up for those leaving the ship. A good deal could prompt some sooner rather than later.

So one thing to consider with all the transitioning to alternate DAWS.... besides features (I mean really, you can make music in ANY of them these days, it's come a long way from the old days).

Which COMPANY is the most stable and likely to support their customers?  Who has the best prices, updates, authorization, forums etc?  Who is "owned" by who, etc
  • Steinberg?
  • Personus?
  • REAPER?
  • ProTools (LOL! I kill myself...)
