I'm working my way through the X2 manual trying to absorb as much as I can and on page 107 (in the tuts) decided I'd check out the hardware setup link to see what the Cakesters had to say about my Scarlett.  For some reason Focusrite isn't even listed but a bunch of other companies I've never even heard of are.

I mean I've got the Scarlett working and have for some time now but I wanted to learn about all the different options being offered up in Sonar. Is there like a corporate beef here I'm unaware of?

Scarlett 8i6 here and all works fine with sonar x1d,x2,x2a. Oututs, inputs, spdif etc all working fine and as expected.

Oh I know it works. I just wanted to check out their setup guide for it as I'm sure I could learn something from it.

Alas it does not seem to exist. There is a link to let tech know about it so if I can be arsed maybe I'll send them a message and get a hold of Matt from Focusrite to see if they can get it on the list.

The mixcontrol still evades me >.<

What problems are you having with the Mixcontrol software?

the card isn't tricky to setup , like say the emu 0404 for example.. they rate it by problem calls no doubt... = they haven't had a lot of problem calls/emails about it

and / or focusrite didn't send them a unit.. novation keyboards on the other hand, I won't be buying another as even after factory resetting it, it's not 100% = not 100% impressed.

In all honesty, everything is currently stripped down whilst I sort the room and work out what direction I want to go in (more analogue synths & reel to reels)


I remember having issues with Sonar playing back songs at slower samplerates and some issues with routing the audio as it was when I used my old m-audio 8r (although that had some samplerate issues too >.<) Some of these issues are more down to my lack of time to be able to delve into things further.


At the moment I am at the stage of wanting to just be able to go back to tracking stuff the simple way :) well, simple ish lol. Without having to worry about samplerate mismatches, clicks and pops here and there or bugs in vsts/daws/mapping software, that seem to take up so much of my time when I want to get down to the nitty gritty lol. 
A bunch of synths, linked and fed by midi/patch and meddle as you go....

Controller keyboards are another thing, I really don't like their integration with vsts and lack of knobby/tweak-ability. 2 M-Audio controllers I had, one just randomly died, the other had to be sent back due to issues and I got refunded and that was then replaced with a Novation Impulse 49.
Auto-map has been a pain in the rear, took a few attempts to get it to connect with Live and Sonar, hardly worked when it came to vst (mapping controls/getting them to be remembered correctly).
It's really plasticy feeling too >.< faders are tripe (not to mention that 2 of the drumpad pads no longer light up nor do 2 of the fader buttons...and I would bet I've used them twice in total!!!) Can't be bothered to send it back, I will use it as a bit of a controller/preview synth for my other bits if I manage to get it all set up tidy. 
I'm not having a gripe at Sonar, I've had issues with a few pieces of software, some which were solved through later patches, others which haven't.

Is there any reason that Roland isn't on Cakewalks hardware setup guide? Yes, because a lot of the Cakewalk web site and many products are obsolete.

They really need to do some house cleaning but unfortunately that type of work generates no income.

Presonus  Focusrite Audio Interface setup for SONAR X1

Click Edit > Preferences

Under the Audio section on the left, click on Playback and Recording

From the 'Driver Mode' dropdown select ASIO and then click Apply

Under the Audio section on the left, click on Devices

Make sure your Presonus Focusrite card is selected under both inputs and outputs.  If it appears grayed out, deselect all drivers, in both inputs and outputs, then select your Presonus Focusrite card. Click Apply.

Under the Audio section on the left, click on Driver Settings

Make sure one of your Presonus Focusrite drivers is selected as 'Playback Timing Master'. It is best to select the output that you have speakers or headphones connected to.

Click Apply and then OK

Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Presonus Focusrite device. Make sure you have your speakers or headphones connected to its outputs 

Note: Presonus Focusrite may also provide WDM/KS drivers. If you experience problems in the ASIO Driver Mode, you may want to consider using WDM as an alternative.

Click Options > Audio > Advanced

From the 'Driver Mode' dropdown select ASIO

If the 'Driver Mode' selector is not available make sure the box next to “Always use mme interface” is NOT checked.

Click Apply and then OK, if prompted restart the program

Next, Click Options > Audio:

On the Drivers tab, make sure your Presonus Focusrite card is selected under both inputs and outputs.  If it appears grayed out, deselect all drivers, in both inputs and outputs, then select your Presonus Focusrite card.  If changes are made, click OK and if prompted, restart the program

On the general tab, make sure one of your Presonus Focusrite drivers is selected as 'Playback Timing Master'. It is best to select the output that you have speakers or headphones connected to. Click OK and if prompted restart the program.

Finally, all audio playback will occur from the Presonus Focusrite device. Make sure you have your speakers or headphones connected to its outputs.

Mackie is also missing and the 1640i works very stable with the current version of X1d expanded we are using at the studio.
