In X2 you can just click on the PRV and drag a note out to size. I can't remember if this is the same in X1. If it's not, then I'm pretty sure there is a modifier key that you hold while clicking in order to add a note. Try holding CTRL or ALT when you click.

Then to change the length of a note, just hover the smart tool over the start or end of the note. The pointer will turn into a vertical line with arrows on either side. Click and drag.

There have been changes to how the smart tool works in X2, there is a video that describes the smart tool in X2 on this page http://www.cakewalk.com/C...ONARU.aspx/Get-Started

I am sure there are X1 specific smart tool videos on Youtube that might help you improve your workflow.

I use Sonar on XP and it is not stable. Never was. I do not see any improvement between S1x and S2x. The difference is- it crashes slightly different. I upgrade because I keep giving it a chance, but it stays unprofessional.

EDIT Try studio one or live and see if that is better midi wise. Otherwise, you'll have to go cubase to get anywhere near as comprehensive a midi palette as sonar imho.

Edit again. I give up. I thought it was working better but I've had all yer gittin' from me. Funny, when I use reaper or live or studio one, **** mostly works. Hoops and hoops with sonar.
