I was just gifted a laptop (Asus Q500A - Not the one with touchscreen) with windows 8...

I've installed Sonar X2 (as administrator) and tho it's working, I had a number of dll's fail to register during the install...

Will this be fixed when I install the X2a update or have I done something wrong... Virus software was disabled prior to install as well...

Any info anyone cares to share? I could use the help...

Thanks...

If you are getting errors when installing X2 you may need to download it again.

X2a is a patch that wont fix basic install problems.

I have X2 Producer installed on my Win 8 machine and didn't notice anything like you report.  I have looked at projects that were recorded in Win 7/X2 without problems (I have all my added VST's installed in the Win 8 installation and that all works).  I haven't tried recording in Win 8 as my "production" system is Win 7.  I just installed it in Win 8 to see if/how it worked.

The only issue I had was I had to install my Frontier Tranzport in a Windows 7 compatibility mode.  It wouldn't install in the native Win 8 mode.

Are you sure you ran setup as administrator? I would try running it again as administrator and see if it works better. I did not have any of these issues when I installed on win 8.

Like the others above, I had no issues installing X2 under Win8x64.
The X2a patch won't address this type of issue...

Thanks Guys...

This is a hard copy of X2 (DVD) which installed fine on my win7 machine...

I did re-run it (as administrator both times) with an uninstalle between of course... ;-)

I tried that before I posted...

Maybe I didn't have McAfee as turned off as I thought? I'll look some more.

It seems that all the problem items encountered were control surface dll's and a couple of 32bit v-synths. Sonar itself seems to be working fine so I'm ok... for now?

I had thought that maybe these had some win8 issues that were resolved with the win8 portion of the X2a update, but I guess not...

Thanks again... I'll try installing the 32bit version and see what happens...
