  • Why upgrade Melodyne Essential to Editor 2? (p.2)

I was hoping to be able to reject the Melodyne Editor upgrade offer. But after looking in to it resistance has become futile. It's too good to pass up.

I haven't checked their site nor if there's a time limit on the offer, but if it's $149, that's what it also was a year or two ago when I upgraded to Editor when Studio One did what Cake has just done with it.

So the price hasn't changed since then.

And so maybe it won't, since that's exactly what many of us paid back then.

Seems like $149 is a set up grade price.

Yeah, the offer expires on Oct 19th, at least that is the offer they made to me.  I wish I had till the end of the month as X3 costs more this time ($149) and the Group Buy for Orange Tree got most of my allotted money for VSTs for the rest of the year. BTW, I could not pass up on the OTS Group Buy as I had been waiting for such a sale for a long time.  So the Melodyne upgrade offer is a good price but one they offer regularly like the  Studio One users, but the offer has a window that is open for too short a time.  I will wait til the last minute and decide.

BTW, I reread their offer and this is what the upgrade provides :
  • even edit polyphonic audio material such as piano or guitar tracks, thanks to our patented technology DNA Direct Note Access
  • modify not only the pitch, position and duration but also the vibrato, drift, formants, volume and attack of notes as well as the time course within them
  • also output polyphonic audio material in the form of MIDI with our audio-to-MIDI function
  • use comprehensive functions for working with scales, tuning systems and temperaments

One more question for you long time Melodyne users:
Does Celemony usually have Christmas sales that match this upgrade $149 price?  Have they in the past?

As i already had essentials installed I did not initally regester the version that came with Sonar. I just got back from a trip and regestered it on Friday. I emailed Celemony asking about the upgrade and received an offer valid until the end of November,  so for anyone who can't jump straight away the may be a chance if you contact them.

I went ahead and upgraded. I just had a quick play with editor using a audio clip of a strumed guitar. I must say I am impressed. It was very easy to flatten the thirds and chance the major chord to a minor.

I think Glyn is right, I believe Celemony is extending the deadline somewhat. Best to contact them.  I too thought the deadline to upgrade was a bit short. I went ahead and upgraded to the full Editor v2.1 for the $149. For me it was the so called "no brainer" deal. I had always wanted to get the Melodyne Editor version, but I could not really justify the $300+ cost for one specialized program. But, with the SONAR X3 upgrade offer I not only got the full X3 Producer ($149), but the Melodyne Editor ($149) for less than it would have cost me to get on it's own. The full Editor 2.1 version is working seamlessly with SONAR's X3 ARA integration as if it is truly a part of the application and not just a clumsy tack on.

One tip I got, was to uninstall the Essential version first (if already installed) and then install the Editor. The upgrade to Editor worked flawlessly for me.

Cheers,

I often think that the short deadlines are basically designed to get buyers to react to the impulse buyer/knee-jerk temptations while still newly impressed with what they see before too much time goes by and they start shopping around for the other things that are now constantly coming to this increasingly competitive VST market & all the goodies now available.

Hmm...I don't recall un-installing Essential before going to Editor version, but maybe things have changed.

When I upgraded to Editor, the only thing I had to install was the license key. This was a few months ago. It was my understanding that the entire melodyne singletrack is installed and the license determines what level of program I.e. Essenrial, Assistant or Editor.

That's what I recall as well.
Just adding the license was all it took.

Then I closed & reopened it to be sure.

I want to upgrade, so I clicked the Upgrade now link in their email. That took me to the main page for the Celemony store, and I couldn't find the $149 upgrade offer.

Is there another way to do this?

EDIT: I sent an email to Celemony support, and they replied almost immediately (on Sunday) with a link that worked. I'm in business with editor now.
