Would rather spend the same money to hire a good lawyer for a class-action suit against Gibson if the DON'T keep the servers running.

We paid for LIFETIME access.....that doesn't reasonably mean 60 years, but it also doesn't mean 1 year.

I can see a small boutique-style company coming out of the ashes; it must make sense, as long as they can gain ownership of the code for a reasonable amount.  If they had some nouse Gibson would gift it for PR reasons alone.  I would be happy to pay an annual (reasonable) fee for continuity and ongoing development.

Yes I would go back and pay for yearly upgrades.

As of right now Cakewalk is dead so our lifetime upgrades are dead.  Although we have to get over that as far as I am concerned I got a lot for my lifetime payment so I am not going to complain.
Don't count the fixes and look at the freebees we got like the Adaptive Limiter. That alone was worth the lifetime money.  YMMV

If a global corporation can't show a profit with Cakewalk, how can a bunch of forum users suddenly make it profitable ? Don't get me wrong . . . I'd just like to see your business plan.

Agree.  The recent business model may have been the reason for it's demise.  It was labeled a subscription model by the less informed. That created a negative reaction by outsiders.
