After upgrade no sign of my RME 9632 audio card in device manager so can't update it (and wifi is unusable).  Scanning hardware hasn't found it. No soundcard - no X2A music production! Anyone else had these or similar problems?

Have you installed the win 8 drivers for all your hardware and software and made sure that all your hardware and software is win 8 compatable? A

PC that came with XP may not have a mobo and other hardware, like video cards that are WIN 8 ready. Allot of research and work goes into upgrading from XP to Win 8

XP to Win 8 is a big jump

You'll need new drivers for your sound card.

Also I'd recommend updating your BIOS and any chipset drivers that are applicable.

Stick with win8 though - it's worth the update and coming from XP it must be like coming out of the dark ages :)

You didn't check first?  I'm not upgrading my DAW to Win 8 cause my Saffire Pro 24 doesn't have drivers for it yet... prob will before too long.  Upgraded my son's XP computer with no issues.  I even upgraded my 5 yr old Vista laptop with my fingers crossed... wifi worked which I was worried about... have a couple of minor issues but overall I like it.

Thanks for responses.

CJ, I ran MS upgrade assistant before download. No major problems found. MS updated video drivers
Yes I did check drivers are available and I've got them for the RME card. Just not sure about installing them without the RME card being seen at all. What do you think? Have posted and looked on RME forum which seems to suggest that is what you should do but I'm not certain.

aka, I'll see if there are bios updates for my Asus P5k. Great if they are still supporting it. Must say say Win 8 does feel snappier than xp :)

Off forum topic but wifi issues seems to be a common for Win 8 users.

Edit: saw "unknown device" in device manager. location was pci so assummed that must be the rme card. Updated the drivers for it and 1) card working 2) seems to have resolved the wifi problem.

That's normal operation when you do not have the drivers installed. Drivers make it possible for your sound card and your pc to communicate. Without the drivers, your pc wont 'redneckingize' your sound card. I always wanted to say that

I'm not sure about chipset drivers but my bios is 11.04. There is a 14.02 year 2009 beta available on the Asus site.

Last time I flashed my bios there was a windows prog but can't find one for win8 direct from asus

lol - For most complex hardware, they are not plug and play. You have to install RME drivers, then the card will be seen
