Freddie Emagic was great company and Logic was a great DAW. Now CW is beating it into the ground.

I liked how you said that.
Really? Never understand why these things have to turn into a competition. But to play devils advocate have you checked out comping in logic. They got it done right and more advanced then Sonar even after Cakewalk reinvents the wheel with take lanes. Also varispeed in logic. Also comprehensive notation. Also, check out logics folder editing. Also flex time. The way colors are used in track/mixer view. Etc.

This hardware require updated windows drivers for SP1. The X2a update also installs something from Microsoft,  Visual C++ Redistributable 2012 11. something. If you are having install issues for X2a make sure you have the required service packs and updated drivers before you install X2a.

Cripey! I'm glad I caught this post. Is this mentioned in any of the X2a documentation? Man, they sure don't make this stuff easy to figure out, eh? Anyway... good post. I didn't realize the Service Packs (or lack thereof) could caused such problems. Cheers.

Beepster, I do not understand your reaction to this update. It solves quite a few issues and like all updates some users have had issues after applying it.

Yup - glad you caught it too.  It will be like this pretty much from now on, where the internals of things moving forward will count on machines being at a certain level, particularly with things like the redistributable code and the .NET framework (that's more for other things).

Anyways, glad you saw this prior to you making the jump,

@scook... Howdy. I'm just going on the premise of if it ain't (too) broken don't fix it. X2 has been working rather well for me aside from a couple glitches which I have workarounds for. I'm just concerned that if I patch and something screws up I'll be down until I can find the time to isolate the issue. Just seeing a lot of people having problems I don't want to deal with. I don't think I saw any problems posted after the Quickfix was released so I'm probably gonna just do that for now and cobble together as much info on the "a" patch as I can or just wait until the next one. I'm about to start going through all the tuts and then the finer points of the manual. Just don't feel like playing tech for a while and I haven't had much time to really watch the forums lately. Cheers... hope you are enjoying the holidays.

@Bob... Yeah, you'd figure they'd write this stuff to work with the core of the OS despite the updates and service packs but I guess not. Gonna have to start taking notes. Cheers.

The Metro 'touch' stuff was presented in Visual Studio 12 - hence a recompile. Naturally, if you don't have the VS 12 C/C++ runtime, i.e., you're not running on Win 8, you get the extra install.

ouch... my brain. :-(

Hopefully now that I'm in a more reasonable environment and (in theory) will have some time I can learn more about all this kind of thing. I'm a reasonably smart dude but I got a very late start in the whole computer game. Add to that I, well let's just say I did not get very far in school, I've got some serious hurdles to face if I intend to get a good handle on things the way I'd like to.

But I'm a pretty stubborn *BLEEPING* *BLAP* so I just gotta shut my yap, pay attention and get my head into it. Been dealing with so much stupid crap these past couple years it's been hard but now's the time... and it's about time.

Thank goodness for this forum. Cheers all and hope you and yours are healthy and happy. Peace.

I think this is being over analyzed and made to sound unnecessarily complicated.
X2A installs a new microsoft redistributable library. This in itself is not specific to Windows 8. In fact any new Windows software written will require this library so it will be increasingly common in the next few months.

The OP's issue is most likely completely unrelated to this. As far as I read he went straight from X1 to X2A. If he is crashing on loading old projects, its possibly a plugin compat issue. Loading the project in safe mode and skipping plugins will help narrow down whats causing the crash. Or send in a problem report with the minidump and it will be investigated.

Hi Beepster,

This is a response geared more towards a hardware conflict using a delta card then a proper way to update to X2a. I did the update and Sonar works much better for me now. At issue are two sets of drivers. One set before SP1 and one Set after SP1. This is something that I found to be hardware specific and only applies to the Delta 1010lt card. This is an issue I worked through on a friends computer which had nothing to do with Sonar, but affected the sound over all.

The Redistribution Library 2012 is a good thing and it is great that cakewalk included it. It is not something that is limited to windows 8. The OP's issues are more computer related then they are Sonar related. I was able to resolve the issues regarding the Hardware which is the same thing the OP is using. I was just passing along the solution I found.

The SP issue is not the case with all hardware. I believe if the OP followed the solutions I outlined then he will resolve his issues. According to a post by the op he did not have the quick fix installed either. So I think that just compounded everything.

The recommendation was only because of the hardware he is using. This did not apply in my case, and probably not in yours.
