@beepster - I would install X2a, you'll be fine.  Rock solid here.

As Marcus says in his post above, these issues only relate to that specific hardware.

Go on, do it.  Go on, go on, go on, go on..

It would be great if there was a way to do that all at once.  (I.e. a function that saves it as a bundle - BUT with each track starting at 0 and all midi tracks transferred as well.)

A good way to be able to open old projects is to save every track as a wav and then you can open and remix them in whatever DAW you want, anytime in the future.

Beepster I can't believe you have not patched X2 yet. The A patch is painless to install and it will not give you any trouble. Because CW has added stuff to it as well as more configuration ability it caught us a little off guard. Even so it is a very useful patch. Because we know what is going on now we are here and we have your back. Give yourself a nice Christmas present and install it ASAP.

Hi, Marcus, John, jb and Noel.

Thanks for the encouraging thoughts, guys but I think I'm gonna wait it out a little longer to see what's up. As I said X2 has been doing what I need it to do right out of the box (which is great and frankly pretty impressive) and I'm pretty confident about the QuickFix seeing as how it has been out for a while now. Just kind of want to see how the a patch is going to play out.

I believe you guys that it's probably all good but if I do just happen to end up with an issue I'd rather have it happen after the knowledge base of our power users is at peak and I've had a chance to research others experiences.

As I said I'm pretty much just going to be stepping back for a bit and digging into the manual. As much as I'd like to get back to recording my stuff I need to really learn some more or I fear I'll just be spinning my wheels and producing mediocre stuff that has to be redone (which is the case with everything I've made to date).

Also I figure the patch just came out and most folks are probably dealing with family stuff instead of really picking it apart so I'm sure about mid January there should be a much clearer picture of what's going on and how to fix any potential issues. I'll also be back to a reasonable level of normalcy to read the threads and take notes.

Yeah, I'm probably being paranoid and I'm certainly not trying to take a dig at Cake. I'm just proceeding with an overabundance of caution as usual. Slow and steady wins the race... right?

Anyway, I hope everyone is having safe and happy holidays and I should start showing up a little more frequently in coming weeks. The place is coming together but man am I ever tired. lol

Cheers!

I think this is being over analyzed and made to sound unnecessarily complicated.
X2A installs a new microsoft redistributable library. This in itself is not specific to Windows 8. In fact any new Windows software written will require this library so it will be increasingly common in the next few months.

The OP's issue is most likely completely unrelated to this. As far as I read he went straight from X1 to X2A. If he is crashing on loading old projects, its possibly a plugin compat issue. Loading the project in safe mode and skipping plugins will help narrow down whats causing the crash. Or send in a problem report with the minidump and it will be investigated.

Yeah, the post drifted afar.  Several folks indicated for him to go through safe mode and figure out which plugin was torpedoing his loads, and he was having some success with that.

More importantly, even if the thread drifted, the original poster has had some good attempts at assisting him, and may alter his attitude toward Sonar - hopefully.  He certainly sounded a bit cheerier than where he started.

Do you guys all mind if I ask a really dumb question? Do most of you upgrade in place? The reason that I ask, is that I am still able to open projects that I created in ProAudio (pre-Sonar) in X1. It worked in Sonar 5, 6 and 8 too.

I have changed machines at least four times over the years, and I generally created bundle files of the projects. I would burn them to CD for later use, and they all seem to load. Of course, the effects and plugs change, but I can at least always get the projects to load with audio.

One thing to suggest to the OP:  I have always had problems if I changed sample rate between projects. My older projects recorded in 44.1 won't play unless I set my hardware to deal with them.

If thats a dumb question I would very much like to know what a smart question would be.

I think you are very correct in every point you make.

I too an able to load any project from any version with no problem. I have never changed my sample rate. Bit depth yes sample rate no. Interesting!

@logic by any chance when you upgraded did you switch from 32-bit version to 64-biot or vice verse? I know when I tried running the projects I created with the 32-bit version, I ran into some issues because of plugins
