Sorry if this has been addressed already... If my Windows 7 system is working great with X2 and all my devices, why would I upgrade? Are the benefits worth the chance of breaking something that "aint broke"?

Thanks for any input.

Merry Christmas!

There's no need to upgrade unless you want access to the touch screen features of SONAR. Otherwise, it works the same in 7 as it does in 8.

If you plan to upgrade to 8 any time soon though, be sure to do it before the end of January because right now it's going for a good discount ($40). After that it almost triples in price.

Lots of reasons to upgrade:
including
better core management
speed improvements
X2 bits and pieces.
current upgrade price is ~~42.50
stupid start menu/wall

Lots not:
no time to learn/configure
don't wanna
only computer and in middle of big job,...
favorite programs will not work ith 8
stupid start menu/wall

Best approach:
use external disk to create disk image
partition the OS disk
install w8 to new partition: now you have a dual boot computer
add programs, drivers,....  as you have time
continue testing until satisfied all is well
use 8 all the time

My view is no you don't need to upgrade. Windows 7 is just fine. Windows 8 is better and if you want touch its a good reason to do so. Otherwise its not mandated.

I went to Windows 8 only because I was on Vista. I am very glad I did upgrade but I don't think I would be as happy going from Windows 7.

Can I get W8 while keeping W7? I'd like to get W8 but I do not want to do away with W7. I'd like to have a choice to use it or not use it. I'll do a little looking around... I guess I would like to have W8 in a boxed package so I can use it when I get ready. I am not ready to migrate because of drivers... still, if I can get it for 40 bucks now that would be cool.

I'll check your site.

Thanks!

20 minutes with win8 will make you wonder why you ever bothered with win7.

It's faster, more stable, manages memory better, looks nicer etc etc

Win8 is a really big jump in performance from 7 on a decent machine

you don't need to get a boxed version. Buy the online upgrade, run through the download process and the last stage gives youthe option to save it as an iso file which you can then burn to disk.

You can also use this disk to perform a clean install :)

Does the upgrade know if you are 64bit?  I have Win7 64bit and when I went to the Windows site, I did not see a 64bit upgrade.  All I saw was a link to download the Windows 8 Pro update for $39.xx.  Does it automatically know your version and correctly upgrade you to 64 bit?

I was not going to upgrade becuase I have my system working perfectly.  But, for $39 it is worth considering.

The upgrade wizzer will NOT allow an alternate bit depth.
