  • 32-bit-only plugins still bundled with Sonar?

I finally upgraded to Windows 7 64-bit and installed Sonar X1 x64. In general everything works great as long as I use 64-bit plugins, it's fast and seems very stable! I like Windows 7 a lot, much better than XP. However, 32-bit VSTs don't seem to work very well -- I hear occasional clicks and pops when I use plugins like RXP, Perfect Space, BeatScape, etc. Considering that Sonar has supported Windows x64 ever since Sonar 5 I believe, I'm kind of wondering why Cakewalk has never updated these plugins, especially since they're the kinds that use system memory?

What version of Sonar are you using? 8.5, X1 or X2. BeatScape is not included with X2. I think the idea here is the Matrix View will replace BeatScape. I love Perfect Space. Maybe the pops and clicks could be latency issues within the plug-in itself.

I redid my hard drive and reinstalled X2 after the quick fix was released. I installed BeatScape from X1 because I wanted to have the content. I am not sure how much difference the content is between BeatScape and the default loop stuff that comes with X2.

The Matrix View works much better than BeatScape in my opinion. Just out of curiosity what are your new system specs? Congratulations on your new system. Hope it works well for you.

RXP and Perfect Space use third party 32bit libraries. Beatscape has been dropped from the product.

Regarding Perfect Space specifically, you may need to raise your latency - PS is VERY cpu hungry

I'm using Sonar X1 Expanded on a MacBook Pro from 2010. I know that RX2 loops can always be played back directly in an audio track, and I also just discovered that DimPro x64 can also open and play RX2 files just like RXP. However certain samples seem to crash DimPro for some reason. I'll have to keep testing it, but at least it seems to play back the samples without pops unlike RXP. Also DimPro will load the BeatScape library too. :) The audio glitches I'm getting with Perfect Space aren't because of Perfect Space itself -- I'm getting the same issue with other 32-bit VST plugins. I'll just look for a convolution reverb plugin that's 64-bit, that's all. :)

Yeah I determined that DimPro x64 was crashing on only certain RX2 loops, not at random (yay!). A good example is Abstract-90 -> DrumLoop in the BeatScape library. RXP will play it fine without crashing, but the performance isn't as good. At least I know that DimPro will work great if it can play back the sample right the first time (I think). I'll have to stress-test it and see.

iirc the "default loop stuff" that comes with x2 is the beatscape content, but categorised for easier searching
