My main problem with touch is that I'm prone to make mistakes with it. Like with my iPhone, you double click a web page to zoom in. Only I'm always single tapping by mistake and activating a link instead. Of sometimes when my finger is hovering over a screen I will accidentally touch it and press something I didn't mean to. For me there is something inherently accurate and foolproof about a mouse, and I have never once thought that my mouse was lacking in the control department.

You have a point Sharke but may I point out a couple of things. With a phone or even a tablet you are pretty much reduced to touching anything and everything. With a desktop and a touch enabled screen placed flat you can view it as a CS. Your mouse will still be your main interactive GUI device or if you have a true CS it will supplement the touch screen.

I don't have any intention of for example using a touch screen in a vertical display position as we have our displays now nor do I expect to abandon my displays in favor of a touch screen. All Windows 8 and X2a gives us is a lot of options. We will decide how best to incorporate these developments into our work on a daily basis.

I think as we become accustom to how these things will work we will make good use of them. However there is no hurry.

I like the potential that the touch screen offers. Session Drummer 3 on a touch screen would be awesome! but I think that for me touch is a long ways out. For one my VS-100 does not have windows 8 drivers that I know of. The last version was 1.50 and it is very good for windows 7. I am not so sure that it would work that well in windows 8 and that is the main reason I have not upgraded.

I Have two very nice 23 inch monitors that do everything I need them to. I went to best buy today to price a good size touch monitor (23 to 27 inch). The cheapest I could find in the store was a monitor for 800 bucks. The price goes up from there. I can not justify replacing one of my awesome monitors for something like that. For that price I could buy some really great music gear. I could buy some really good plug ins too.

I know things will change. New drivers will be released and prices will come down. I just think it may be a while before touch screen becomes a reality for me. So for me it may be a bit early. That just gives cakewalk time to work out all the potential bugs. I think touch screen looks really cool. The hard part is getting past the hardware investment.

Regarding Session Drummer - yes it is, programming the step sequencer via touch is very natural - I would say this is one area touching the step sequencer works better than a mouse.

But I'm not sure if Cake had fixed the note delete function (right click mouse / how to do touch delete ?) - this is not mentioned in the X2a fix list.
With touch screen laying flat - a big screen will be cumbersome - yet we need big graphic. I've been trying to lower the screen resolution of my 21.5" Dell to 1280 x 720 - at this lower resolution, the step sequence cell grid becomes as large as your finger tip - just nice. The session drummer interface would fit about 3/4 of the screen - nice and full enough.

I don't see myself working consistently on a vertical or angled screen. Much less exclusively - but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

To me the best option yet is in between - something like the current track pad integration in Logic. Now, that made my life easier. Yet, I do keep the mouse handy, as it's still the most efficient way to accomplish certain things.

Think I'm going to hold out for the thought control. It can't be long now.

So, I found an ASUS 27 inch multi touch screen for $500.... give it some time and we will have 30 inch plus multi touch screens for the same price.  Remember when an 19 inch flat screen was going for $500?  I do.
