Hi folks

Got Sonar X2 Producer last week after using HS7 XL for many years. There's lots to learn and I'm keen to maximise all the functionality that X2 has.

Whilst experimenting with X2 today I set up a drum bus using Toontrack EZ Drummer. I routed all the drums to this bus and thought I'd try out some of the effects that comes with Producer. I'm playing the drum sounds via an external keyboard by simply hitting the keys.

What I've noticed however is that when I add certain effects, latency is introduced ie. I hit the key on the keyboard and there's a noticeable delay before the sound comes out of the speakers. When I remove the offending effect, the latency disappears.

This is an odd problem because it doesn't happen with all effects ... just some and removing the offending effect cures the problem. Add it again and the latency comes back.

Any ideas folks?

Thanks

YC

Some effects use a look-ahead buffer and can't be used with input monitoring without a delay. Those types of effects are really only good for mixing.

Some of the effects are designed for mastering. In order to work optimally, they must "look ahead" at the data stream. Since time travel is not possible, they do this by caching data in a buffer, and that buffer introduces the latency. Do not use these effects in real time processing.

Thanks guys. I thought it might have been something daft! This forum is invaluable at times :-)

Having had the same question answered for me recently, I thought I'd throw in also. The quick workaround I used was... rather than individually deleting or unchecking every CPU hungry effect I was using while still recording, engaging the PDC button in the toolbar allowed for real time recording. Plugin Delay Compensation button, it must undo the "fix" to get things lined up in time. PT
