Hi all - I'm posting this purely because I think it benefits we, the users of Sonar in applying our craft. I don't work for anyone. I'm just impressed and wanting to shed light on it. I just picked up the Chris Lord-Alge Audio Legends course. In that we are all trying to grow in our endeavors mixing the audio we create, I am excited to tell you about what the purchase entails.
 
First but not foremost - the video aspect of this program is CLA giving you a guided tour of the session. Truly, this not the highlight of the purchase, cool as it is. He points out important aspects of what he's doing he feels you should pay attention to (imo, of course).
 
The tracks you get to download and hear without plugs and with plugs is where folks like us will grow. There's no doubt that hearing the relationships between instruments and their frequencies, and what he does to improve them - is where good mixes become great.
 
Steven Slate let me know tonight that he's working to make the Sonar DAW tracks next up in availability. This is a $149 item, and It's up with no plugins for $97. You don't HAVE to have the Slate Digital plugin bundle, but CLA uses them fairly exclusively. One could substitute. I haven't seen anything like this in tutorial world before. Enjoy!!

It seems that to get the most out of this course, you must have the Slate plugins. After watching a few of the videos it feels more like an infomercial for the plugins than anything else.

I bought this course recently and found it to be a complete waste of time and money.  Your mileage may vary.  
 
Like Mistergreen said, it's pretty much just an infomercial for Slate plugins and not of much educational value.  He just kinda tweaks knobs without explaining why or what he's trying to accomplish.  Put Slate plugins on your tracks, randomly tweak some knobs, and you'll be awesome just like him!  The main things I got out of the course was the free iLok 2 and the knowledge that Slate plugins really don't do anything for me.  I'll stick with the plugins that come with SPLAT and from my favorite 3rd parties.  
 
If you do purchase this course and go with the "free" month of plugins, make sure you immediately set your subscription to NOT auto-renew or they'll keep charging you the subscription fee.

I guarantee (well, not really :)) that you won't be disappointed!

I found some value in seeing how Chris did what he did using Slate and then trying to duplicate that using the tools I already have. After all, most of the plugs he uses on the project are just SSL emulations and I have the Waves SSL plugs.

Chris' work stands on its own and is a testiment to the depth and breadth of his knowledge and skills. He truly is a master of his craft. That said, you couldn't fit his head through a double garage door with twenty shoehorns. Give me Andrew Scheps any day.

I saw the snare video that's a free preview and thought it was interesting how cranked the crap out of the eq bands in the high frequencies. i think most of the eq, iirc, he did was boosting. Seems like he was blending it in with the dry signal though. I've thought about getting the videos but haven't yet.

LOL so true. In one of the videos he says "since I'm known for my drums, I like to start by working on the drums". What?!? That's the reason you start with the drums?
 
And he constantly refers to himself in the third person in the videos. Like at the end of the drums video he says "so, that is Chris Lord Alge going through his drums".

Of course he's much larger than life and has convinced himself to be a household name.....even my children are very familiar with Algae and giant kelp.
