Speaking anti virus products - I'm a big fan of ESET.
Just recently picked up a 2 year 10 device (PC, MAC, Android) license for  $150 (normal price) which includes anti-theft.  $7.50 per device per year for top line product was a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

I discovered that this crap had automatically installed itself, both dashlane.exe and a "dashlane update service". I uninstalled both and so far they seem to be gone. I'm thinking it may have piggybacked onto an automatic Chrome update. I have since found that Dashlane is widely considered malware, not because the program itself is evil, but because the price of a "free" subscription is popup ads. Despite this reputation, I had to page through four pages of Google results before I found any reference to Dashline that wasn't an advertisement or a positive review. Could they be a Google affiliate, and Google is censoring negative references?

Hi, I actually happen to work at Dashlane. I know we currently have some partnerships going on, and Dashlane is sometimes bundled with other software, so this might be the reason why you ended up with Dashlane on your computer. I confirm this is not related to Chrome or Google in any way.

By any chance, did you take a screenshot of the page or pop-up, so we can be sure it's the one that we gave to our partners? I am going to check with the rest of the team. Terribly sorry for the bad experience! I'll let them know that you ended up with Dashlane on your computer without actually wanting it (and knowing it).

You can uninstall Dashlane from your Control Panel and all the files and processes will be deleted from your computer.
For some reason, if our browser extension is not deleted by our uninstaller and still show up in Chrome or Firefox, then please copy and paste this into the location bar in Firefox: about:addons and in Chrome: chrome://extensions/ Then either click the trash icon or click "remove" to delete the Dashlane extension from your browsers.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you run into any issues.

And our main servers are located in Ireland, and we also have servers in the U.S. for our automatic Password Changer feature. Don't hesitate if you have any questions!

Although I appreciate Xavier taking the time to join the forum to post an apology, it's safe to say I have zero interest in any software that installs itself without permission, period.

It might be a great product, but it wouldn't be the first to commit suicide-by-marketing (anybody remember DubTurbo?). Next time they meet with their marketing partners they need to talk about the fact that threads like this never go away. Unless Google is actively censoring negative comments, it'll continue to come up in searches for a long time to come.
