  • Any chance Cakewalk could be sold to another party (That would keep it going)? (p.4)

.
it was 1994 that they acquired it, so it's death was after that date, a big difference between that and the 70's

i think they already tried but didn't succeed - any sale attempt would have come before publicly closing down

If they sold it to PreSonus, I'd be really happy. Studio One is my 2nd (by a long-shot) DAW,

Oh good lord NO! I couldn't disagree more, Hell no, not presonus. Their support is absolutely shocking, and let's be honest, their products are definitely sub-par. I've been using them for a while as a cheap and cheerful mobile solution, but I've finally given up after over a decade. I'm tired of there being zero repairs support, "new" driver and firmware versions that drop huge major features from the interfaces, buggy drivers, noisy electronics and so on.
If it had to be an electronics firm buying them, I'd rather see RME or Focusrite do it.

It's a really sad and shi**y day. I've been using Sonar for my own (non-work-based) projects, and occasional sequencer based things in the studio since forever, I've had a go with everything that's out there, and whilst practically none of them got the audio editing workflow right, Sonar got it less wrong than the others, and had a few really nice touches up it sleeves that I miss in every other DAW.

The key word in the press release is "GROWTH".   All companies are abandoning anything that is not a projected high growth product.  Jettison anything that is difficult or costly and focus on making "stuf" up about "potential" and "high growth" business.  Often with no basis, history etc.

The new trend is to *make stuff up* in terms of projections - while avoiding spending money on anything.  Only reason is to increase stock (short term), then dump the new product (sell it off or change the definition, keep the smoke coming add mirrors etc) lather, rinse, repeat.
