I'll add to the chorus of hopefuls / skeptics.
Most of us long-time users pushed through some pretty bad iterations of Sonar i.e. the "X" ages. I remember being frustrated having to transition from Pro Audio 9 to Sonar because I was so used to the old workflow. Alas, I stuck it out, as I always have with Cakewalk.
Cakewalk was my first DAW and their Windows support kept me recording through military deployments, live shows, and random bedroom studios.
Now, I have a nice studio and have built everything around Sonar. Although I am sure Studio One will probably be adequate for my needs, learning the subtitles of a new platform makes me cringe a bit.
I hope Microsoft or another cash-fat company comes along and saves Sonar. The user base is so deep and so committed to this platform it would be a boon for anyone not named Gibson.
FYI, Gibson is selling their Memphis factory. Perhaps their wonky, overpriced guitars are the real culprit.
I lived in Memphis for a while and only a couple blocks from the Gibson factory - which is in a SWEET location just behind Beale Street. Slowly, the store started to stock awful Gibson studio monitors and other overpriced - cheaply made "pro audio" offerings. It seemed weird for a revered guitar manufacturer to offer such low-end gear.
Lastly,
Long time Cakewalk users are a bit like Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon. We all know how to drive the hell out it and we know where all the bugs live. Sad to see a fully developed and loved platform succumb to poor management and lack of vision.
At this point, and if this past year is any indication, I am betting Oumuamua is probably going to crash into Earth anyway
