I purchased an upgrade to my unused Studio 1 version 2 last night and downloaded it.  It has its pluses and minuses.  While I am convinced that, with some effort, I will get it to work, there are a few things about Sonar that are way superior.

#1 - the ability to dock windows.  I think I took this for granted.  Man.  Opening VSTs and FX and docking them made them easy to go back to.  Having floating windows of tons of things is a PITA.

#2 - Using a dual monitor setup.  Maybe there is a way to separate the mixer from the track pane (or whatever they are called in SO3), but I ran Sonar SPLAT with the track pane on the left and the console on the right on 28" monitors and it was beautiful!

#3 - SYSEX.  I have a couple of cool hardware synths.  Waldorf Wave.  Memory Moog, OB6 (DSI version), Synthi AKS.  Some of these transmit SYSEX as you diddle the knobs.

That is an observation after just a few bits playing with SO3.  There are elegant advancements in SPLAT that at least SO3 is lagging in.  There may (in all fairness) be areas where they excel.

Your thoughts?
PS this is not intended to be a gripe session, but maybe a feature request session that could be ported to the DAWs of choice for us soon to be orphans.

Thanks

Step Sequencer, perhaps? I use that a lot and I couldn't find anything like it during my one hours session with the software this morning...

#4  Zoom in and out:
It's not possible to fast zoom in and out. You cannot change the zoom-factor like in SONAR

#5 Bouncong an effect to a clip
At the moment I see no possibility to bounce effects to an audioclip as in SONAR.

But using Dual monitor does. You can seperate the mixer from the track pane. Also the instruments and plugins.

Yeah - I saw that last night.  Thought I would compile things first from me and others and submit.

Thanks for pointing it out tho!

Happy Thanksgiving if you are in the US.  Otherwise, have a great Thursday wherever you are (UK ?)

I will sorely miss Pro Channel. Very handy and there are things in it that would cost a whole pile of money to get elsewhere.

I also really liked the Pro Channel. Does anyone know if any other DAWS have something equivalent? Of course, there are many other important factors as well, but as a tiebreaker, this would be relevant to me.

Well so far, I have not found one DAW that records or renders at 64bit fp...meaning I'm screwed. 32bitfp is not good enough!

I also use the Tape Sim constantly on busses and drums. The Adaptive Limiter, and Addictive Drums. I'm probably going to have to run Sonar until it stops working because of this!
