I purchased an upgrade to my unused Studio 1 version 2 last night and downloaded it. It has its pluses and minuses. While I am convinced that, with some effort, I will get it to work, there are a few things about Sonar that are way superior.
#1 - the ability to dock windows. I think I took this for granted. Man. Opening VSTs and FX and docking them made them easy to go back to. Having floating windows of tons of things is a PITA.
#2 - Using a dual monitor setup. Maybe there is a way to separate the mixer from the track pane (or whatever they are called in SO3), but I ran Sonar SPLAT with the track pane on the left and the console on the right on 28" monitors and it was beautiful!
#3 - SYSEX. I have a couple of cool hardware synths. Waldorf Wave. Memory Moog, OB6 (DSI version), Synthi AKS. Some of these transmit SYSEX as you diddle the knobs.
That is an observation after just a few bits playing with SO3. There are elegant advancements in SPLAT that at least SO3 is lagging in. There may (in all fairness) be areas where they excel.
Your thoughts?
PS this is not intended to be a gripe session, but maybe a feature request session that could be ported to the DAWs of choice for us soon to be orphans.
Thanks
