I'm running the Producer trial. I'm loving the sound of the pro channel and the general look and feel, but coming from DP and Reason I have a couple questions on time signature.

for example, in dp, time sig gets its own track and I can copy and paste changes in the sig around the project. if I have a chorus with two measures of 3/4 and one of 2/4, I can lay out the changes first, hammering out the fills and bass and then I can move it around as I add more verses, intros, etc. can I do this in sonar? I figured out how to change the time sig at "bar x" but can I copy paste and generally moves those parts around, or do I have to add them more or less linearly? that kind of sucks if I have to do that.

Views > Tempo (Alt+Shift+5) will get you the Tempo View, and you can select a region in the timeline and use Alt+Ctrl+C to Copy Special, and uncheck everything but Tempos. Then paste as usual.

Also Views > Meter/Key (Alt+Shift+6) will give you access to time sigs.

Oops. Got thinking about tempos instead of meters. The same pretty much applies to meters, except the Meter/Key view does not include a timeline to see how they're laid out and select a range. But you can select ranges by dragging or Shift-clicking in the list view, and there's a checkbox for Meter/Key changes in the Copy Special dialog.

Thanks for your help. It was nice to find i can draw in my own tempo automation as well.

i suppose it's a bit of a letdown that there isn't really much of a way to tell there are multiple time sigs in a song at a glance. only if you notice a difference in spacing between the grid can you tell.  with both DP and Reason, it's pretty obvious (i keep going back to those becuase it's all i ever used).

Now I need to search on why i'm getting pops and why i can only have one Reason input in cake walk. But that's for a different post.

thanks

You only get one instance of Reason because that's all Rewire can handle at a time.

It would definitely be nice to have a visual time sig indication, but in the meantime, as a workaround, you can insert markers into the Time Ruler. Position the Now Time and press M to insert a marker. Then you can name it with the new time sig. But of course, this won't actually insert a time sig. change.

Are you sure? in DP i can make up to 64 aux tracks and then match each one with one of Reason's 64 outputs. I haven't seen how to do that in Sonar yet. The reason to do this is so i can print multiple reason tracks to my Host DAW. if Sonar can only do two at once, then I'd have to solo the track and i want to print and do each track one at a time. what a time killer!
