Show stopper here. While it works on the laptop with the X32 as audio device, it crashes at startup on the studio DAW when used with the VS-700 ASIO driver, 44.1 kHz as well as 96 kHz (win7 64bit)

I am so sorry to hear that.

I remember when I wanted that unit (VS-700) so bad it hurt.

It's posts like this that make me glad I held out for my RME UFX. It's been rock solid in SONAR, Reaper, S1V3 and Mixbus. As is my Presonus Faderport. I'm hoping these two units will server me well for the duration of my life in the DAW world.

MIDI-wise the only thing I'd really like to have is the 88 Key Komplete Kontroller although my AXIOM 61 does do me pretty well most of the time.

I'll stick another pin in the Roland voodoo doll.

i understand somebody on logic 8 or Ableton going to mixbuss , but why sonar users are usuing it ? sonar has one of the best engine in the daw market .

is it just for the simple and straight to the point interface and the welcomed limitations ?

Mixbus gets the "Harrison" sound (i.e. console). Nobody, AFAIK, has emulated a Harrison Console. UAD emulates the Harrison EQ but not the console.

This is what interests me in certain types of genres/songs. Will it replace SONAR as my tracking and arranging tool? Nope. Will it (sometimes) be my mixing environment vs SONAR? Yup.

YMMV.

yeah. wanted it really bad myself and fell for it. mind you, the control surface is still exceptional. nothing gets close to the experience when using Sonar. the audio interface itself makes a lot of fan noise and has one of the not so stable drivers (can't compare to RME from what I hear). so when I can justify the move moneywise, I'll be off to to RME while keeping the VS-700 as a CS only ...

good luck with finding a spot. the doll has become a hedgehog already

that's exactly why I seriously want to give it try ...

The way I think of it is that many DAW's have an added console emulator. Harrison is more like a console emulator that added a DAW.

Excellent analysis John.

Need to note that this issue has (most likely) been solved. Harrison support is quick :-)

Here's what I got from them ... and I could start and use the software and now can hopefully can dig in

The Roland drivers have been troublesome for us; so troublesome that we added an option specifically to make them work better. Please try clicking the "buffered audio" checkbox in the Audio Setup dialog, and tell me if that allows the Roland device to work better.

You might also try using a different device ( such as choosing PortAudio, MME, {internal soundcard in&out } to verify whether Mixbus is crashing on -any- device, or if it is associated with the Roland device.

LOL!

I was going to suggest the Buffered IO option but I deleted it before I posted it because I was sure you you said "Mixbus crashes before it opens (on the desktop)" and was thinking how can he set something if it's not opening.

Hope that solves it for you.
