First thing that comes to mind is that you can't let soneone else's experience with X2 define your experience. Different workflows are creating different opinions and experiences - you won't know 'til you dive in.
 
Second thing, and I'm sure others will/won't agree -- is that this forum and how people communicate don't get the whole story out very well.  Some screaming headlines end up being user error or misinformation, and the truth doesn't get equal billing!  Not to mention there is plenty of OPINION mixed in with the reality of fact.
 
Last, if you think you are going to go anyway and you think you may regret missing out on something, then I say "GO!"  You will have some learning time anyway - so use this time waiting for the update to get used to how X2 works.

Actually, some people are having better luck with X2 versus X1 while for others, it's the other way around.  I'm hoping X2a addresses this.  This forum is one of the (if not the) best for any DAW software.
 
I have no trouble with the what I see as the X2 workflow - pretty much improvements everywhere.
 
I have a couple of specific fixes I'm waiting for (not overhauls mind you - just some functional look and feel which was present in PE 8.5.3 / Sonar Plus - ahem - sv - cough, cough...) and any improvements in Matrix View.
 
If there is a resounding thumbs up for X2a, that will also help.
 
Otherwise, I've got X1d Expanded, and the money could be used for DAW software which might compliment X1.
btw:  You are using the same audio / MIDI interface as I am - which version of the driver are you using?

Im using 6.0.2, tried the latest but it crashes the sound output

As you say, some will have "better luck" than others.
 
Many, though not all, of the complaints threads about X2 have turned out to be user error, not a fault of X2.  I see no reason for this to change with X2a.

You'd have to agree though, that DAW's have gotten pretty complex.  Add in the sheer number of hardware permutations in the Wintel (or AMD) world, and you've got quite a stew.

I used to come on here ranting.
 
Now my first thought is "What am I doing wrong?" or "Have I not understood this?"
 
Not saying that all issues are due to pilot error, some are, as you say, system specific.  I never had this problem on Atari, or Amiga, or BBC model B.
 
Or with tape.  But I don't have to align heads, splice tapes, or load from floppies or a cassette anymore, thank god.

JB the most rewarding posters are those that come here exasperated and over time become excellent members. I have watched you give some very fine responses to some difficult posters. I consider you among our finest members. We have an abundance, fortunately, of those and thus I have no fear that as time pases a new quality membership will carry on.  

This applies to quite a few recently and I am happy to see it. Keep up the good work. 

Atari 520ST with Dr.T's KCS software was what I had back in the day. It was a great system, and since the soundcard and MIDI ports were built into the computer, the software developers could just write for the specific machine and not worry about users having all kinds of different configurations.

But there's no way I would give up all the power that we have today to go back to that. It was definitely fun and I actually still have the system (and it still works!), but I think I'll keep using my DAW PC with SONAR.

I do not have a lot of experience of t'interweb forums, but this one keeps me coming back. My wife thinks I'm having an affair..
