I am about to reinstall all of my software with Windows 7 64 bit.  Are there any advantages to installing Sonar 8.5 Studio vs 32bit version.

I have EZDrummer as my main drum application, but am willing to buy JBridge, if it isn't a huge hassle to get up and running or to operate EZD with JBridge and Sonar 64bit.

Feedback please....

Thanks,

Ted

I'd install them both if you have the space.  This way if you run into any issue with 64-bit Sonar and 32-bit plug-ins, you could open the project in 32-bit Sonar and keep work (as long as you aren't over the 4gig RAM limit that is).

I use and has only the 64bit version installed on VISTA 64bit, but as Tom already said, it can be a great idea to have both versions.
Even though, I don't think you will run into any problems that can't be overcome and solved with the included SONAR bitbridge or with jBridge.

99,98 % work under 64bit... even Waves-plugin & Nomad Factory work now with DX-bridge & Sonar Bitbridge.. check: Did you know..  to get more info.

In you signature you have 4GB RAM, You have Sonar Studio, not PE and EZDrummer is the only listed VSTi. It looks like you record mostly Audio. I would not think you would see much advantage in 64 bit. (Cue Freddie with the counter argument.)

If you use more VSTi, particularly somthing like Kontact and you increase the RAM to 8 GB it would be worth while.

Freddie beat me to it :)

haha Glyn, my friend

You need 128bits to record Audio, everyone knows that... haha
You are right Glyn, agree! =)

I don't know.. perhaps overall, the x64bit system would work little bit better for him, any version of Windows 7 works & rocks so...

The main thing I have with 64bits is that alot of garbage in the OS is now no longer present. It's a sort of cleaner OS. Great for making music...

Producer 8.5 loaded with no glitches but the Cakewalk synths simply would not run--apparently the 64 bit dll's are an issue.  The program runs and 32 bit VST synths run just fine from Native Instruments, Toontrack, IK, etc.
I tried WDN/WASAPI/MME drivers.  The programs shows audio running but can't get sound for any 64bit synth/Dimension Pro/Session Drummer/Rapture/True Pianos, etc.  I use WDN in version 8--no problem.
This is in Vista 64 in a very powerful machine.
Luckily I used System Restore before installation (which seemed to go okay) and went back to Producer 8 and it runs fine.
I hope this is not like the Rapture issue that took forever to fix.

You probably missed something while installing Sonar 8.5 as this is not the case for many, like myself, who run Sonar 8.5.1 x64 in Vista64 all day long.  Did you try running Sonar as an administrator, or opening Sonar while holding SHIFT key (to start the personalization process)?  Changing driver modes will do nothing to fix the problem by the way.  Try re-installing Sonar 8.5 without any Firewalls, Anti-Virus, or Spyware softwares engaged.

I am running Win7 Ultimate/64, Sonar SE 8.5 in 64-bit mode, MOTU 896/8pre/MIDI Express with latest 64 bit drivers, I have experienced issues with the Sonitus:FX plug in, specifically the EQ was the one I tried.  What happens is after adding the plugin to a track it causes Sonar to go into a Not Responding state, then eventually blue-screens my computer with a 'System Service Exception' error.  Further troubleshooting has revealed it has something to do with the 2005 VC++ runtime libraries, and I believe specifically the file MSVCRT8.DLL.  The problem does not occur in safe mode.  I have also made sure I downloaded the latest Radeon video drivers, MOTU drivers, updated my BIOS, and made sure any unnecessary services were stopped.  It is a vanilla machine for the most part, I have no other software or plug ins installed with the exception of Sonar 8.0 Studio which I had before installing the 8.5 upgrade.  Hardware is a Dell Studio 540 quadcore, 8GB RAM.

Please note I am not trying to hijack this thread by any means, in fact I have a seperate thread started already for my issue stated above.  The reason I am mentioning it here is I believe after troubleshooting this for several days, and reviewing the log files and error messages, that there are still some bugs to be worked out within the Sonar 8.5 64-bit application particularly running on Windows 7.
