I've seen this problem mentioned before.  You need to make sure you have the latest Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable installed in your system.  Perhaps Sonar is referencing the wrong version.  A search on "MSVCRT8.DLL" will provide you with the correct answer.

Many use that pack, example Native Instruments too.

Thank you for the replies, I sincerely appreciate it.  I have tried your suggestions, and even tried a complete uninstall/reinstall of 8.0 then 8.5 without migrating the user settings, and still am experiencing the issue.  I have logged this with Cakewalk tech support and sent them dump files.  Just for your info, the detail of the crash is as follows:

I am about to reinstall all of my software with Windows 7 64 bit.  Are there any advantages to installing Sonar 8.5 Studio vs 32bit version. 

I have EZDrummer as my main drum application, but am willing to buy JBridge, if it isn't a huge hassle to get up and running or to operate EZD with JBridge and Sonar 64bit.

Hi Ted, I just installed w7 yesterday. I also installed Superior drummer and I am going to install the rest today hopefully. I have several hours of installing to do. Not looking forward to that part, but the 64-bit part looks like fun.  The good thing is that you can install the 32-bit SONAR besides the 64-bit in case you run into any compatibility issues.
 
I really like the 'look' of W7, but got burned by the search feature in the explorer. I wasted a few hours figuring out that the explorer search doesn't work very well.

Yes that's true! =) But only few old once..that i don't need or use and the new Studio Reverb 2, project 5-series.

Lexicon Reverb that are in x64 and the included IR-Reverb from Voxengo works in x64bit too.Anyway, I think that the Studio Reverb 2 will get ported to 64bit too in the next update of SONAR 8.5.x.

As I ranted on another thread, it would be nice if the VC 64 was in fact 64 bit. That's my favorite compressor along with the Waves R Comps.

I just wanted to share with the folks on this thread the solution to my problem I reported earlier on this thread (and have shared via a seperate thread on this forum).
 
The issue was with the version of the SonitusFXEQ.dll file that came with Sonar 8.5 Studio edition.  Cakewalk tech support provided me for troubleshooting purposes the SonitusFXEQ.dll file that came with 8.5 Producer edition and ehan I replaced that file, the problem went away!  What is interesting is that the size of the DLL provided to me is the same as the one I replaced.  But the file properties are definitely different between the 2.  The one I backed up was version 3.3.3.221 and says Copyright 2004 Twelve Tone Systems (those were the days!) and the one sent to me is version 3.3.3.372 and says Copyright 2004 Cakewalk... makes me wonder about the rest of the Sonitus
plugins, perhaps you may want to check them out between producer and studio. 

Cakewalk's tech support was outstanding as usual.  This is why I have been a loyal Cakewalk customer since the DOS days!

I am running Win7 Ultimate/64, Sonar SE 8.5 in 64-bit mode, MOTU 896/8pre/MIDI Express with latest 64 bit drivers, I have experienced issues with the Sonitus:FX plug in, specifically the EQ was the one I tried.  What happens is after adding the plugin to a track it causes Sonar to go into a Not Responding state, then eventually blue-screens my computer with a 'System Service Exception' error.  Further troubleshooting has revealed it has something to do with the 2005 VC++ runtime libraries, and I believe specifically the file MSVCRT8.DLL.  The problem does not occur in safe mode.  I have also made sure I downloaded the latest Radeon video drivers, MOTU drivers, updated my BIOS, and made sure any unnecessary services were stopped.  It is a vanilla machine for the most part, I have no other software or plug ins installed with the exception of Sonar 8.0 Studio which I had before installing the 8.5 upgrade.  Hardware is a Dell Studio 540 quadcore, 8GB RAM.
 
Please note I am not trying to hijack this thread by any means, in fact I have a seperate thread started already for my issue stated above.  The reason I am mentioning it here is I believe after troubleshooting this for several days, and reviewing the log files and error messages, that there are still some bugs to be worked out within the Sonar 8.5 64-bit application particularly running on Windows 7.

 
Had the same problem with my laptop running windows 7 home 64 bit as well as a desktop running windows 7 home 64 bit. I installed sonar 8.0 64bit and then updated it...then installed 8.5 64 bit and then updated it. Both computers would freeze up when i inserted a sonitus graphic equalizer. It required me to perform a hard reset. Another thing I found was that on some of the plugins, the graphics being displayed would freeze up each time I toggled the parrameters. For example, In the boost plugin, the little image on bottom would seize up each time I adjusted the output volume or the boost control. Kind of wierd. Lastly the biggest issue was that CPU usage was bouncing around between 30% - 99% constantly. And trust me I know how to optimize sonar's performance by adjusting latency and disk buffer size ect. I've been using sonar for 6 years now. None of this happened as soon as I reinstalled Sonar 8 and 8.5 as the 32 bit version. The brings me to conclude that Sonar 64bit 8.5 and 8.0 DO NOT mix well with Windows 7 64 bit operating system, however the 32 bit sonar works perfectly.
