  • Will X2a fix the crashes while browsing DimPro patches?

Just wondering since I've been a little too busy to scour the forums lately whether the Bakers have mentioned this. The blog post doesn't say much. If you aren't familiar with the issue essentially when browsing through DimPro patches after going through about a dozen sounds or so some users are experiencing crashes (including me). In my case it manifests itself by the sound cutting out then very loud digital crackling and eventually a crash that requires a restart of Sonar. I've seen a couple people mention this sometimes happened in X1 as well. My main concern is my speakers (or if I'm wearing headphones my ears). This has been the only major problem I've had so far with X2. I should mention I still have not installed the QuickFix but I don't think that has fixed it for others and with X2a right around the corner I figure I can wait.

Just to be thorough here are my specs in case anyone has found a way to fix this on their own:

X2 Producer 64bit (upgraded from the X1 Production Suite)
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68 Pro Gen3
CPU: i7 2600k
RAM: 16GB DDR3 (Corsair Vengeance)
Program drive: 500GB Caviar Black 7200RPM 6.0
Data/Samples drive: 1TB  Caviar Black 7200RPM 6.0
PSU: 700W Coolermaster CPU
Interface 1: Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 (this is the one I use mostly)
Interface 2: Layla Echo 3G (installed but not being used)
Keyboard Controller: M-Audio Oxygen 25
Pad Controller: Korg padKontrol
OS: Win 7 Pro 64bit

Hope everyone up here has been well. I've mostly been dorking around in the coffee house while waiting to set up my DAW but now I'm ready to get back to work. Cheers.

Interesting..

I was browsing DimPro (x64) patches, after I installed the Holiday Pack, and had the exact same issues.
Loud crackling, and then a crash. Very unpredictable.

However:

I was using the standalone Dimension Pro instrument !
*NOT* as a VST inside X2 !

Beepster > Can you try that scenario as well? Should make troubleshooting a bit easier ;-)

X2 works perfectly for me, not a single crash yet since I first installed it.
I'm mostly using audio only though, no MIDI or virtual instruments.

Yeah, I was thinking I might play around with it later so 'll give it a shot. Guess if it's doing it in standalone as well the patch probably won't help. That's pretty annoying as a new user because I still haven't figured out what's what yet so there's gonna be LOTS of patch browsing. What a drag.

In the mean time, you might want to consider adding a limiter to the master buss to at least tame unexpected outbursts of noise.

Good idea, scook.

Also I decided to go solution hunting on the intertubes and found this post over on KVR...

Dimension Pro to 1.5 was crashing Sonar X1 all the time, depending on the synth preset used. For me it was the first guitar preset.

Dorset Magic from the Cakewalk forums found a fix which worked for me:

If you set the MIDI Matrix Random Unipolar parameter of the synth preset to 0 it won't crash anymore.

From this thread... http://www.kvraudio.com/f...hp?t=350725&page=2

I have no idea what that means but I'll have to check it out. Anyone else try this?

It only applies to certain patches. One of the issues with some and I stress some of the stuff in Dim Pro is that they may contain rex files which are finicky in the 64 bit environment.

And actually I'm not sure the limiter thing will work because of the crash. Also in standalone is there a way to add a limiter? I know DP has a lot of fancy doodads so maybe there's a limiter in there. Hope you've been well. Cheers.

@emwhy... Only certain patches cause the crash or that fix is only for wonky patches (which might be a separate issue altogether)? When it was happening to me I made a note of the patches that caused the crashes but after restart they were fine. Then about 12 patches later it would crash on a different one. I've seen people mention sometimes the RAM gets clogged when doing stuff like this but not specifically with DP. Cheers.

Hope one of the Bakers can pop in and shed some light on this.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but some of the patches that crash my desktop on a regular basis run fine on my laptop....just what we need right...more confusion!

Yeah... I hate to say and I know it's pretty difficult to implement but some of this stuff should be tested a little better to work with a wider range of hardware. I guess the only real way is to spend the bucks on a Mac but then I wouldn't be able to enjoy my delicious Cake.

I wonder if those who bought from Jim or ADK have this problem. I based my system on an ADK build as best as possible but obviously I did get all the fancy tweaks they provide.
