I've been busy trying to compose a medley of Christmas Carols and I'm encountering a multitude of problems - likely because I'm using many more tracks than I have ever used before and it is a l-o-n-g composition.
 
Before I get to my point I'll mention that one of the problems I've encountered recently has been discussed on the forum before.  But without any real solutions.  That problem is that copy and paste does not work consistently.  Folks seem to have noted that closing down Sonar and bringing it up again seems to fix the problem.  I have not tested that solution, will as soon as I'm done posting this, even though it certainly is not a very acceptable solution.  Perhaps closing and restarting will be the solution to this problem too:
 
I have two projects open.  I go to project A and copy a particular track.  I go to project B and paste the track - usually a different track number. That works until I get above track 10, then screwy things start happening.  Now what is consistently happening is that I copy from track 24 in project A (Alto Sax) and try to copy into track 13 in project B (Alto Sax); but the copy occurs not in track 13 of project B (the only track that is selected) but it goes into track 7 (celesta)! 
 
Am I doing something wrong here or is this just a bug that I'm supposed to put up with?

I noticed the same thing last night within the same project on X2 Producer (with Quick Fix).

Sorry, I have never had this problem and I copy/paste everything, but have'nt tried from one project to another. Will have to try and see what happens.

Closing down Sonar and restarting makes it behave better.  Not exactly a solution, but at least a work-around.

I don't think clearing the clipboard will have any bearing on it.

You could try doing a paste special and selecting a specific destination track - this should work.

Sonar does not paste into a selected track by default, it posts into the "in focus" track as a default starting point. A selected track has its number highlighted. The in focus track is the track that currently has input focus. An important difference.

In addition the copy & paste feature of Sonar is very powerful and with that power inevitably comes complexity. If you aren't getting expected behaviour from the paste function open up the advanced paste options (Ctrl+Alt+V) and have a look at those. If any of those have been changed they will 'stick' until changed again.

With the exception of the now fixed envelope copy/paste bugs I have never experienced any unexpected behaviour using copy & paste. There are however lots of options that will change the behaviour you might expect and that's the first place to look.

Bristol is right...I found myself having to use paste special a lot.
You probably keep selecting the wrong track on the left...and closing and re-opening clears this.

I have had issues with oddities and copy/paste functions before in the past. Pay attention to what track you have selected at the left when you paste in normally, this is where I generally have problems.....if you perform a "paste-special" you can specify which track to place the content in.

This does become confusing when you paste a bunch of information or are taking whole sections and reiterating. Sometimes confusion comes by using soft-synths, where you have no audio data on track 1 (listen back), but have midi on track 2. If you are not careful and have track 1 selected when you go to paste....the midi data will end up on the audio track. Typically when normal pasting it's just a matter of the data being vertically shifted between the destination tracks. This is easily fixed...just identify the first track that has data and paste special with the destination track selected where you want the first data to start.
 
I have noticed some oddities on the highlighting of the selections, say if you range select multiple or selective MIDI clips. Sometimes I will select one clip and the adjacent one will highlight as if it is selected too. I just tend to ctrl or shift click to deselect and move along.

I also use paste special for all of my track copy and paste work. I have never had a problem since doing so.
