Thanx for the input.  I'll have to review the manual to understand the difference between selected and in focus.  Also need to better understand the the different cut and paste options available - I found that using paste special caused the pop-up menu to appear, but after awhile paste special acted just like paste as far as I could tell.
 
Anyway, at least I'm able to move forward with this project.  It gets aggrevating when I spend more time trying to understand this new version of Sonar than I spend on my composing.  Hopefully I'll fight my way up this learning curve eventually.  This forum is a great resource.  I particularly like the fact that you pointed to the tutorials.
