Hello,

I am having issues with my UA-1G.  Everything was working fine until my daughter disconnected the unit from the USB port and switched the Advanced Driver to off.  As a result, I couldn't hear any audio or MIDI.  I didn't know what I was doing when I went to rectify the issue, so I tried to reinstall the driver.

I've disabled all other sound drivers (Microsoft High Definition Audio Device, my M-Audio Midisport Uno - this is for my keyboard controller - and the NVIDIA High Definition Audio).  Every time I go to install the UA-1G driver, I get a message that says an error occurred and I need to uninstall the driver, restart the computer, and reinstall it.  I've done this a dozen times and have had the same issue with the same message: uninstall, restart, reinstall.

I've contacted Roland, but they haven't been able to nail down the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?  I've searched the forum, but haven't found any posts with the same issue with their UA-1G driver.  This is driving me batty.

Thanks!

Dan

It could be shorted out because its powered by the USB. It doesn't happen often but if its removed without the needed precautions and it was on when it was removed who knows.  I hope this is not the case.

One thing you might do is try to remove the driver from your system first then install the driver then plugin the UA-1G. Do not plug it in first.

Do you have a system restore point set on your computer, and have you tried going back to that point?

I'm guessing the "Advance Driver" setting is configured on the PC and not the device itself.  I'm not familiar enough with the UA-1G to know, but if it's a setting on the PC then maybe a system restore will help?

Good luck.  These kinds of issues can drive anyone batty.  Hopefully you get that aha moment...

Just to add to John's point above.  I do have enough Roland USB gear to know that it's best not to have it connected while you (re)install its drivers and only reconnect when the installation procedure instructs you to.  Good point John.

It might sound silly but have you tried connecting the interface to a different USB port? The system should recognize it and install the drivers again.

Hello John, Thanks for the idea. I had kept the UA-1G unplugged while I uninstalled the driver and when I tried to reinstall it. Same issues still occur. Dan

Hello Peter, I really hope I get that "aha" moment soon! I'm afraid to use the system restore because as I was trying to fix this issue, I had downloaded some malware. I had to take my computer into a shop to get all the malware and spyware cleaned out. If I go to a previous point on the system install, would I risk reinfecting my computer? Thanks! Dan

Hello,

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.  Unfortunately, nothing has worked so far.  My PC recognizes the UA-1G when it is plugged in.  I've tried installing the driver without the UA-1G plugged and with the UA-1G plugged in.  I've tried plugging in the UA-1G in various USB ports.  I've tried installing the driver with only my mouse plugged in and nothing else.  I've also tried various versions of the driver... again no dice.  I get the same message that informs me that an error has occurred and I need to uninstall the driver, restart the computer, and reinstall the driver.

This might be a little out there, but when I've downloaded the driver from the Roland site and opened the file folder, I notice that the html read-me's don't work... I'm directed to a webpage that "isn't found."  I doubt this is related, but thought I'd throw that out there.

Any other ideas?  I do appreciate people taking the time to read these posts!  I wouldn't know how to fix half the issues that have arisen with Sonar X1 without this forum.

Do you have another system that you can test out the installation of the UA-1G and the drivers you are installing for it?  Anything, like an old desktop PC, a laptop or some work PC ... anything?

I would be curious to see what happens if you are able to find another system to try the installation on.  If it doesn't work on another system, then maybe you need to focus more on the device itself (perhaps a factory reset or whatever).  If it does work on that other system then we need to refocus on your studio DAW.

Regarding going back to a system restore point.  I don't know what would happen regarding the malware/spyware you had there before, but maybe you can have an anti-virus disk ready to install and deal with that situation should it arise.  Or repeat the same process as before to get rid of it (which isn't fun, but it's also no fun being unable to use your UA-1G)...

Hello Peter,

That's a good idea.  I should try this device out on my work computer.  Thanks for the idea.  Do you happen to know if there is a factory reset on this device?  I wasn't aware of one.

Thanks!
