  • X2 Crashing Constantly expanding Pro-Channel and opening Plug-Ins

This is beating me up: X2 is crashing for me almost every 10-15 minutes, when I randomly expand Pro-Channel or try to open various plug-ins. I think it's crashed maybe 15-20 times in the last few hours of working. Is there a crash-log I can view to see what could be causing this? I can't submit this as a bug because it's random and may not be reproduce-able on others' systems. It's almost like there's some tweak needed to tolerate a program/CPU spike when doing such things, and X2 just "gives up" instantly and doesn't try to recover. Going back to X1 for now...

How about providing your complete system specs, recent OS install/upgrade, any such info would help us to better understand your particular environment, and would probably result in much better and willing assistance with your issues.

Most forum users place their software and hardware specs in their forum signature.  To get there, hover your mouse on the User Control Options button, then click on Edit Profile.  Once there, click on the Signature button, then after you add the specs, make sure to check the box to tell the forum software to attach your signature to all of your posts, then click on Save Changes.  Then we will be able to read them - look at the bottom of this post and you will see my specs - that's what we need you to add.

Thanks - looking forward to trying to help you clear up your issues here,

Bob Bone

Yep, here's my SPECs as Bob requested: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601 System Manufacturer INTEL_ System Model DZ68BC__ System Type X86-based PC Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2700K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) BIOS Version/Date Intel Corp. BCZ6810H.86A.0021.2011.0831.1555, 8/31/2011 SMBIOS Version 2.6 Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "6.1.7601.17514" Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB Total Physical Memory 3.48 GB Available Physical Memory 1.74 GB Total Virtual Memory 6.97 GB Available Virtual Memory 4.82 GB Page File Space 3.48 GB Audio: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS TerraTec EWS 88/D These audio devices have the latest drivers, the latter only works in 32-bit, but is not used while mixing. In fact, neither device is used when the crashes occur. This is using Dual-Boot between 32 and 64-bit Windows 7 Today, the crashes seemed to have calmed, but now I cannot get "Manage Layouts" under Plug-In Layouts to come up. I'm suspecting this to merely be a system issue, but who knows? I am going to at least attempt a BIOS update.

hmmm, messy board. Is there a way to format text? They look good in this window, but not when the post finally hits the site. I suspect it's an open-source board, not that I have anything against them.

@scook: (The Patch/QuickFix) Oh, yeah, first thing I did when I installed X2. I never buy Cakewalk software before the first Patch comes out. My issues do not occur in X1 in 32-Bit, only 64-Bit. this issue is in both 32 and 64-Bit.

The forum has some serious bugs in Firefox; it just doesn't work the way it should do. I'm keeping Firefox anyway and not downgrading (version 3 works with the forum) but, it works fine with Chrome... On topic: I'm having the same problems as you and it's terribly frustrating... I just save every time I make a change I definitely want to keep and know I won't be able to remember/will be a hassle to repeat, and work around it (not that one should be expected to, but hey)... No updates, fixes or Preferences menu changes have helped (or are going to), apart from probably decreasing audio quality, which definitely isn't an option. It's nothing to do with my soundcard either because it happens often whilst not in playback, too. My build is 306 and not 308, but, according to the list of QuickFixes, this won't resolve my problems it seems. Here's hoping the next X2 patch does the job!!!

How many, what type & size of hard drives, and what's on each of them?

Are you only running the Soundblaster for your audio needs?

The quickfix *will* most likely address this issue. There is no reason to not install it.

Well, on the QuickFix page it did say that if the user isn't experiencing those problems, then there's no need to install it; and I'm not experiencing those particular problems in the bullet points. However, I'm definitely going to install it and hope it does the trick! I don't have exceedingly high hopes but I'll definitely report back!
