Hello Mike (Mudgel),
I hope that there is a way to save Sonar and that it is not
necessary to give away all the good stuff CW developed for free.

Good idea but call me a frustrated Sonar user,
a bit to early for me.

best regards

Per Noel's post, CW has not only ceased development, but "reduced overall operations this past Friday". There was a rumor on the other thread that the entire Boston office has been closed. In other words, there may not be anyone to put out this mythical "final" release. If Gibson is frantically cutting costs in order to remain viable and/or appease creditors, then one last release of Sonar may be the last thing on their minds.

I expect the chances of there being a 'last' version are about zero. Gibson won't make money and if they cared about any response/backlash it would have been indicated in the official announcement.  They'll just retain the IP/copy-write/patents (if any) and sue people that make something similar but won't do anything with the actual content itself. Those Cakewalk music babies have been drop-kicked into the ocean because they don't please the Gibson shareholders.

However, I'd think the chances of the chaps in the bakery doing something helpful outside of the constraints of their Gibson overlords are pretty good, even if its just a conversion tool for projects. Perhaps as an import option when they get wherever they end up :)

I obviously have no clue what's really going on and like everyone else am just speculating.

Oh there'll be a last edition alright, but it will be on Piratebay, not the Cake store.

A very sad turn of events.

According the their Wikipedia page, they are "private"

Gibson Brands Inc.

Incorporated.

They're a company and therefore have shareholders/stockholders, even if its one family or a small group of people that have all the shares/stocks/whatever.

I noticed in the announcement they mentioned Philips, who are not mentioned in the wiki so the article is out of date.

.
Philips has been floating around the 'family' for a while now.
