Using the Smart tool... - Select notes. - Hold Alt - Draw velocities in Controller pane.

Hey, Scott, that works but I'll be danged if I can find that documented in the X2 Reference Guide. Do you have a page reference?

Hey Dave... page 427, table 71, Hotspot E.

It's my job to ferret out these nuggets of knowledge and it'll all be in the SONAR X2 Power book.

Also, on page 692, it says (and shows screenshots of):

To only show velocity for selected note events

Click the Piano Roll view Notes menu and choose Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only.

[snip]

"Selection sensitive velocity drawing

If any Note events are selected, velocity painting will only affect those selected Note events. If no

Note events are selected, then velocity painting will affect all Note events."

The screenshots show this working in the PRV note pane, but I am not seeing what they show. When I have Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only enabled, I don't see velocity on any notes, selected or otherwise, except when I click and hold  on a single note, or paint with the Ctrl key held down (which is documented on page 452, conveniently right next door to page 692 ), at which point they magically appear as my cursor crosses the start time of a selected note, but then disappear again when I release the mouse button. Do I have a unique graphics problem here, or is that working for you?

Hmmm... there's definitely something strange going on there. It's working here for me. I open a clip in the PRV with Controller pan showing velocities. If I turn on the Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only and then select some notes, I only see velocities for those notes. After I remove the selection, all velocities are shown again.

Ferret out is right! the description for the ALT-drag operation in that table is "[ALT] Click or drag to insert new events (Piano Roll Controller Pane only)". I consider myself to be a fairly accomplished Reference Guide searcher, but it would never have occurred to me to search on "insert new events" to learn how to "draw selected velocities only". Even staring right at it, there's no hint that it would work with velocities in this way.

As for the issue with "Show Velocity on Selected Notes Only". That appeared to be working when I tested just now (after rebooting this morning), but the I found that if I switch to the regular "Show Velocity" mode and back to "Selected Notes Only", it will not work correctly when I return to it. Definitely looks like a bug.

That's one of the reasons people love my books so much.  I'm very meticulous, which is a blessing when doing this kind of work. Although, sometimes it's a curse because it takes me longer to get my work done.

Yep, I can see that now. That definitely looks like a bug. Looks like the only way to avoid it for now is to always use the Controller pane.

Hey Arvid... no, they either changed that key combo (and left mute out) or it's a bug.

But there's an easy workaround... since the Erase tool is already available via the Smart Tool, I just keep my Erase button (in the Control Bar) set to the Mute tool. Then when I want to quick switch to the Mute tool and back to Smart, I just press and hold F10, mute some notes, then let go of F10 to automatically switch back to Smart. How's that for a nice tip?

Another one that will be in the book... although, maybe I need to stop sharing now or no one will buy it.
