.... Dimension Pro, Rapture and Addictive Drums are going to be problems even if SONAR isn't....

Bit, AFAIK, Addictive Drums will only be a problem if you use Command Center.  I'm using the XLN Online Installer to install/manage my AD products, and I doubt it even knows Cakewalk exists.  I did already own Addictive Drums prior to the CW affiliation, but I gained additional products through the CW bundle, and they don't seem to be affected by CW at all.  Maybe you only need to register online with XLN Audio?

Same goes for Melodyne Essentials.  I install/activate that through Celemony's site, and it also seems oblivious to CW.

Got the value for my buck with lifetime updates , since I jumped in when it was first introduced and been with cakewalk since sonar 4 producer edition. No time to cry over what's done..I've got work to do, so I just keep it moving and figure it out.
And who is listening to the crying anyway? Just the people here on the forum, who can't do anything about what transpired and how you're feeling over the spilled  milk. Not trying to be negative or mean here, just keeping it reality based.
IMHO, keep recording and mixing and whatever else you do. This cakewalk thing is going to be what it's going to be.

As far as I can understand, all sonar version post-X3 era will eventually stop launching after cake's servers shutdown. (for authorization).

No.  Try it now.  Disconnect your wireless and launch Sonar.  If you are a lifetime sub, there's no problem.

Sonar requires that you log into the CCC at least once per month to keep your activation current. When the CCC checks with home for updates it checks your registration.

There are numerous threads of people who’s version of Sonar o r some other software goes into demo mode because of a failure in this process. You could get Cakewalk to fix that for you but despite being told the servers will remain on, there’s no humans to do the intervention for these kinds of anomalous events. And it has nothing what so ever to do with having Lifetime updates or not. If you’re version of Sonar is paid up and fully licenced it could happen to you too.

Going forward it’s imperative that that process be removed or we’ll have dead software long before MS mucks things up with an unwanted update to Win 10.

....and I would guess that's one of the things this small residual crew will be working on.  Until someone buys Cakewalk/SONAR, which I believe will happen.

Otherwise, Gibson will have a class-action suit on their hands.

Not necessarily. I have two offline machines that have been manually updated thast have not logged into CCC for many months.

it was years ago. ;-) . I was so tempted to buy one back in the day and now I'm glad I didn't. you can still use it to record audio / mix ? if it's working fine now , just use it / try to get your money out of it.

When I kicked in the extra $99 for the "lifetime" upgrades, I figured if I get a second year of upgrades I would break even.  That happened so I'm "even".

Although I'm going to start learning Studio One 3, that I've had for a long time but never really used, Sonar will do what I need until the time it won't run any more for whatever reason.

Yeah, I guess it depends on when you bought into the lifetime upgrades and when your normal subscription would renew.  I my case I bought it in May 2016 for $99, and if I hadn't I would have renewed my subscription in January 2017 anyway, for the same amount of money, so the lifetime subscription cost nothing beyond the interest that $99 could have made sitting in my bank account for another 7 months, which these days is essentially nothing.
